Question about running a sandbox campaign

So if you’re familiar with my username I just made a post about questions and rules surrounding collisions and crash landings, thank you for all of your input. Kinda as a follow up I’m wondering on how you guys run/structure your sandbox campaigns if you do use that structure. I’m trying it now for two reasons.

  1. It’s always a style I personally wanted to play in and I feel like it’s hard to ask someone to give me that experience without the intricacies that come with it

  2. Because personally after reading the rules a few times and watching everything Star Wars, it kinda feels like that is the way the game SHOULD be played, just my personal opinion.

Just a FYI, I have a loose understanding of how I want things to unfold.

Basically my players crash their ship on a jungle planet, whilst outrunning someone from their backstory. Immediately I would give them a map and from there their primary objective becomes fix my ship.

And then I just have a bunch of shit for them to interact with and get rewarded some credits, some allies, some fame, you know all the good adventuring stuff.

But in my time I spend developing these encounters it feels wrong? And kinda like I’m wasting my time. Is structuring a sandbox as simple as fleshing out some factions, encounters, goals and parts of the world?

Also, thanks for reading thus far and apologies for the wordy question.

Question about homebrew

So I have a question about collisions. There aren’t any stats in the books that I’ve seen and so I decided to come here to look for any homebrew rules but didn’t find any answers that satisfied me. So the premise is, in a game I will be starting soon (July 25th) the story will start with my players crash landing their ship on a planets surface.

My question to you all is, how have you all handled ships crash landing or crashing into stationary objects?

Also if this can be found in the Rulebook please lemme know where and which one.

Appreciate yall!
