A self-check, answer honestly:

  • Can you keep steady time when a metronome drops out every 2 bars at ~80 BPM for a full minute?
  • Can you play singles/doubles cleanly for a minute without excess tension?
  • Can you maintain limb independence without drifting or compensating?
  • Can you lock into a groove without rushing or dragging?
  • Can you play fills and land back in the pocket consistently?

If you hesitate on two or more of these, that's might be your real bottleneck (somewhere in control, time, or consistency).

I'm curious if this lines up with how other drummers think about their playing.
