[TOMT][MOVIE] [1990s] French-Italian movie, writer falls in love with dead musician's ghost, trapeze artist saves him
Seen on Italian TV (late night slot) in the late 90s, before 1999. Italian-French co-production between RAI and Canal+ (or Canal, or Studio Canal, etc.). Filmed in France I believe. Very few actors, mostly night scenes.
The protagonist is a writer who rents a cottage in a small (French? Tuscany?) village to finish a book he's working on. The cottage belonged to a woman musician who had died. The writer meets a young woman who works as a trapeze artist in a travelling circus , she trains at night in an abandoned farmhouse, he sees her on the trapeze. they meet and fall in love.
At the same time, while living in the house, the writer begins to fall in love with the dead musician, going through her belongings, feeling her presence. In the attic he finds a kind of fresco depicting a disfigured woman playing a harp and he start to build an altar/tribute with candles near the fresco).
He decides to kill himself in the bathtub to be reunited with her. The trapeze artist, see him through a window, breaks into the house to save him. The ghost of the dead woman causes poltergeist trying to stop her, but the trapeze artist manages to get him out of the house alive.
