SSRI switch issues
Hi. I have recently been diagnosed with PMDD and Autism.
I have been on Citalopram for 6 years, 40mg for 3. I mentioned to my doctors that I don’t think the dose is covering my ovulation or luetal phase and i’m struggling, leading no life, no job etc because of that those two weeks.
He said to reduce my citalopram to 20mg (half a dose) for a week then switch to a new SSRI Escitalopram 10mg after. But then also said to take this medication during the two weeks from ovulation to first day of my period.
So i’m basically a bit confused because i’m ovulating right now so if i were to make the switch it would be during my period? but if im only to take it for the two weeks from ovulating then after a week of a reduced dose do i just stop citalopram completely and wait for ovulation for escitalopram (which i think is not a good idea and would be bad for withdrawals)
it’s so hard to get an appointment in the UK sometimes that I don’t know if I can speak to my doctor again soon to clarify?
