Kitchen/Bakery Tours?

Hello! Do you think there are any restaurants/bakeries/cafes that would let me see their kitchen?

I recently started working in a bakery in the United States and am so interested to see how things are similar or different.

Just for my own learning and experience! China has some of the best cuisine and most impressive techniques for achieving perfect and consistent dishes. Would love to see more!

I’m a foreigner and only speak English, unfortunately.

If you work in kitchens or bakeries in Shanghai, please let me know if it would be possible for me to stop in for a short while to get a tour of your kitchen. It would be a kind favor to me.

Baking, line cooking, coffee art, any of it. I have very little experience, but a lot of interest!

The line between targeted advertising and manufactured digital realities

Hi all! I want to preface that I don’t know anything about marketing or advertising. All I know is my experience as a consumer.

I’m trying to form my own opinion about targeted advertising, so I’m coming to you for discussion. I realize this is a lengthy post, so I truly appreciate any answers. I’m asking in good faith.

1.) Can you point me in the direction of a somewhat-comprehensive explanation of the different types of ways that companies compile, sell, and buy consumer data? The learning curve seems high and I’m struggling to find an overview to gain understanding before learning smaller details.

I’m specifically interested in knowing the different modalities. I’ve heard of pixel trackers. What else is there? If it helps identify the different roles I’m trying to understand, here’s a recent example:

I was in Sephora to smell a perfume. I wandered across a blush. I don’t buy makeup, so I don’t have history of looking up makeup brands or products, but I decided I wanted this blush and it was sold out. I opened the Sephora app, looked what other locations had the blush, but it was sold out in-stores and online. An hour later, I had like 8-10 ads for that makeup brand across multiple social media platforms. Who collected my data, sold my data, bought my data, sold the ad space, bought the ad space, and pushed it to my devices?

2.) I’m used to aggressive advertising, but have never seen such aggressive advertising for a brand in which I only had one engagement — in the Sephora app.

The whole thing has me feeling like I’m in The Truman Show. Advertisements are feeling less like opportunities to discover new products, and more like, well, stalking. It’s a feeling a bit too targeted and too insistent. It’s wandered beyond the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon and into a noticeably inorganic persistence.

Are there any professional lines being drawn between “marketing” and manipulation/harassment?

I’m not judging anyone in advertising or marketing. It’s your job. But since these sectors are increasingly deciding the majority of daily decisions, I wonder how much regulation there is in the sector?

Large perfume variety?

Hello! I’m trying to have a relaxing time shopping for perfumes — do you know of a place that has the following:

Large variety of multiple brands of perfume. I’ve heard of To Summer, which I will check out, but I think they only sell their brand. I want to smell multiple brands.

Cheaper prices than America

Sales associates that won’t interrupt me too often and don’t mind if I’m slowly shopping

Cosmetic stores in America are bad about repeatedly interrupting customers. I totally understand keeping an eye on customers to prevent theft, but I don’t like lots of input or questions. I just want to be with my thoughts.

Also, if you just have any recommendations for unique and relaxing shopping, I would appreciate it!

I love skin care, perfume, and art.

Thank you for any advice!!! I have many days in Shanghai during the hottest season, so I’m trying to fill them with relaxation and pampering.
