No Spark - 1995 Evinrude E10SELEOE 9.9 hp Outboard Motor

No Spark - 1995 Evinrude E10SELEOE 9.9 hp Outboard Motor

I'm new to outboards so in my research I've immersed myself in the Johnson - Evinrude 1990-2001 Service Manual: https://www.scribd.com/document/325468088/johnson-evinrude-1990-2001-service-manual-pdf

I successfully diagnosed a power pack issue two weeks ago, did the swap and motor was working pretty well. It had a little rough idle at low RPMs, prob could use a carb cleaning but ran well enough. After ~10 hours of boating I have no spark again. Went over the ignition and electrical system outlined in the manual and everything pointing back to the power pack. I recorded my results and the main highlights for anyone to help out.

Is there any way to proper test the power pack with only a peak DVOM meter? I really want to avoid purchasing a Stephens PL-88 load adapter as per the manual, but my curiosity might just have me shell out the $45.

  • The new power pack I used was 0586798 - Power Pack,CD2 (586798) I really don't want to shell another $100+
  • Anything else I should test, review, explore that I have not listed in my spreadsheet?
  • Testing has concluded the power pack is likely the issue, but how could a brand new pack go bad so quickly?

I was sharing a battery with a transom mounted trolling motor. After cranking my engine trying to get it started again and running the trolling motor on high trying to battle the wind home I noticed the wires on the battery were hot. Could I have fried my new power pack?

Here is the link to what I tested and reviewed:

No spark testing result

Any info will be appreciated.

Another trailer wiring question

I'm battling a trailer wiring issue and I'm trying to diagnose. Everything is pointing to bad ground, I'm just stumped after trying a few things.

Trailer symptoms:

  • Lights work
  • blinker and breaks do not.
  • same symptoms before and after rewiring.

What I've done:

  • Used multi-meter at vehicle plug
    • 14v for lights and blinkers
  • Rewired trailer
    • New wiring harness installed
    • New lights installed(incandescent ). The kind with no ground wire, push in connectors for the wires.
    • Ran separate ground to each light.
      • Lights do not have dedicated ground wire so I used a ring connector and attached to the bolt on light.
      • Both wires connect to a Wago connector near front of trailer then connected to main ground wire at plug.

I'm stumped because I have the same symptoms before and after rewiring. I figured if I have 14v from the plug all should be good from the vehicle side. What can I test next to narrow this issue down?
