I’m looking for a lake to go stargazing, but it seems most lakes are recreation areas and operate on a “dawn to dusk” time frame. Are there any lakes or rivers near sf (or areas of the Sioux with a beach) that I can go to at night without worry?

I’m writing a story set in a 1920’s circus from the perspective of a main performer. In the beginning it is made clear that she has grown tired of performing and now it seems like just another job. What can I do to rekindle this love of performing?
