Young Adults of South Dakota

Hi, I 21(M) will be completing my bachelor's degree in a couple of years in accounting and looking for new place to live after I graduate. I was wondering how the job market in South Dakota more specifically Sioux Falls or Rapid City for new grad accountants and new grads in general. I'm from South Florida where the weather is hot and humid all year round and I'm ready for a completely new change of scenery. How is the life here in this city and is it young adult friendly? What are the most popular things to do and how easy is it to meet people? I'm also a Black guy so, how is the diversity, I know it has a majority White population as well as a decent sized Native American population too? Just give me general advice please, I'm in love with the Midwest and need ANY ADIVCE. PLEASE HELP

Local and unique breakfast restaurants

I'm looking for recommendations for small, locally owned, breakfast restaurants. I don't want to go to a franchise like Perkins or IHOP, I want something that feels like a little hole in the wall that only a local would know about.

Scenic lakes open at night

I’m looking for a lake to go stargazing, but it seems most lakes are recreation areas and operate on a “dawn to dusk” time frame. Are there any lakes or rivers near sf (or areas of the Sioux with a beach) that I can go to at night without worry?

Kudos to SFPD and the city streets department.

I reported a downed tree on Grange shortly after tonight's storm to SFPD. It was blocking the entire road just south of 28th st. The city had the tree cleared and the road opened in roughly two hours or less. Fantastic job! #siouxfalls #sfpd

Please help! First time moving out

this is my first time moving out. I applied to Meadow Brook Apartments and they declined me because I had no rental history but sent me over to West Third Street apartments which did accept my original application. On the Crime Grade map it’s in an orange ish red area. does anyone know anything about the apartment/company or area? all the other apartments have great reviews but there’s no much on this one. any help is greatly appreciate!

i accidentally screwed up and signed a holding agreement of $500 thinking it was Meadow Ridge Apartments because thats where the leasing agent said he was from. But now I have a deposit down on the wrong apartment and I don’t know what to do.

Where to get a dice cup?

Where in town can we find a dice cup? We've checked Target, Walmart, Barnes & Noble, Dragon's Den, and Game Chest. Had no luck at any of them.

Last Stop CD Shop - Hiring Ever??

Does anyone know how to get a job at Last Stop CD Shop? I never see job posting for either location. Is it just an extremely low turnover rate? Do you have to have an in or know someone?

My husband has worked in retail and retail management for years and has a vast media knowledge. All things books, movies, games, music, etc. I just know he would thrive there given the opportunity.

Does anyone know where they would post a job opening if they had one? Where to keep an eye out? Who he should talk to? I'm new to Sioux Falls and have lived here for under a year. My husband was born and raised here.

Thank you in advance!

Local Roofer Recommendations

Anyone have a good local roofer they trust? I’ve got a small leak on my roof (only about 10 years old) that needs to be repaired. Looking for an individual/independent roofer rather than a big company, someone comfortable with smaller repairs and reasonably priced. Recommendations appreciated!

Midco MiniTivo boxes

We have three of their mini TiVo (android TV) boxes and they seem to be more trouble than they’re worth anymore.

  1. Storage: you can’t have all of your streaming apps on them without “running out of space”. We’ve fixed this with smart TVs for the apps, but use the TiVo boxes for local TV and DVR. The last time it happened, the suggestion was a factory reset and reinstall the apps.

  2. Buffering: Lately we’ve had to reboot our machines several times a day. Most often has been during World Cup games. And yes our home WiFi is working fine and have restarted our router and modem as a test but any other device on our network can stream content without an issue.

  3. “Not connected to internet” messages at random. Again, no issue with WiFi but the mini boxes will “forget” they’re connected. Manually disconnecting and reconnecting or just waiting for the box to figure it out seems to be the solution.

If any other device on our network was this unreliable, we would have replaced it by now.

I wish we had more neighborhood businesses in Sioux Falls

We have so many cool little buildings throughout central Sioux Falls, almost all of them sit empty. I wish they got used as businesses. That's one of my favorite things about Minneapolis is the little thrift shops, cafes, diners, restaurants, etc. throughout the central neighborhoods. We have a couple in town and people seem to like them (Perch, Ken's Korner, Sunny's Pizza, etc.) I think it brings community to an area and would make central Sioux Falls feel a lot more bikeable/walkable. It also would give each central neighborhood more of an identity. If anything I think the city should be pushing this and actively incentivizing it somehow.
