Recruiter reached out to me, we had three calls, then ghosted me when I asked about next steps

Just need to vent because this one was particularly annoying.

Got a LinkedIn message from a recruiter about a role that actually sounded interesting. Not a mass copy-paste, she had clearly looked at my profile and mentioned something specific about my background. Good sign. We hopped on a 20 minute intro call, she seemed genuinely enthusiastic, said she'd been looking for someone with exactly my mix of experience and that she wanted to move fast.

Second call was with her and another person from their internal team. Also went well, more specific questions, they asked about my availability and start date preferences which I always take as a positive signal. Third call she said she was presenting my profile to the hiring manager that week and would follow up by Friday. Friday came. Nothing. I waited until the following Tuesday, sent a short polite message asking if there was any update.

Read receipt. No response. Waited another week. Sent a second message, even shorter, just "happy to chat if the timeline shifted, hope all is well. " Nothing. It's now been 5 weeks since that third call. She's been active on LinkedIn, I can see her posting things. The job posting is still up, it went from "actively recruiting" to just regular posted but its still there.

I'm not heartbroken over this specific role. I'm just genuinely baffled at the sequence of events. Three calls, specific questions about my start date, and then complete silence. What is the point. What is happening on their end that produces this outcome. I don't need a novel I just need one sentence.

Anyway. Onto the next one I guess.
