Steps for first game

Ok so just got the 3rd season starter set. Started reading the rather weighty book and there is a lot to take in!

Even just deciding on the roster for the teams is a little daunting with all the different things you can add such as cheerleaders / fan factor / inducements / re-rolls etc.

I would like to get playing first and then try and then pick up some of the more detailed stuff later.

What I don't want to do though is omit anything that is fundamental to how the game operates.

Clearly defaulting the weather as "Perfect Conditions" is an obvious one.

In a nutshell I'd like to play a basic but balanced game with a friend and try and explain as few as rules as possible to them without trying to remember 900 little details!

So two questions:

  1. Using the starting teams from the box what would be a recommended team roster for each for an initial match using as few additional rules as possible?
  2. What other rules apart from the weather table would people recommend omitting for a first game?

Skaven without Rat Ogre. Does it work?

Ok so I just got the game yesterday, although I did play an older edition years ago so not totally new.

Have always loved Skaven in AoS so was intending to get the Skaven team set.

I noticed that the team does not include a rat ogre and you need to buy that separately.

I get star players being an extra purchase, but for Skaven I see the rat ogre as kind of integral to the way they play. I get that Skaven are meant to be super weak but super fast, but they need just the one big guy to give them a fighting chance at holding the line of scrimmage, whilst their little dudes run around the side.

So question is it viable to run a Skaven team without the big guy or would their scrimmage line just turn to dust against most teams?
