Beginner soldering attempt on FM radio kit, didn’t power on after battery, looking for repair/learning feedback
Hi everyone,
I’m very new to soldering and this is one of my first kit attempts. I already know the soldering quality is poor, but I’m posting because I want to learn and understand what I did wrong.
This FM radio kit did not work when I connected the battery. I had a lot of difficulty with my first beginner soldering iron, even though it had temperature control. I later replaced it with a simpler iron without temperature control, and surprisingly it worked better. I also recently learned about tip tinner, which helped a lot. I’ve now ordered a T80P iron hoping it will give me better control and precision.
From the photos, I’d appreciate feedback on:
Any obvious solder bridges or damaged areas that could explain why it does not power on.
Whether any pads/traces look lifted or burnt.
Which joints I should rework first.
How to improve my technique for future kits.
Whether this board looks repairable or if I should treat it as a learning board.
I know this is rough work, so honest criticism is fine, but I’m mainly looking for practical advice so I can improve.
Thanks.
