WHAT

FUCK YOU CASSIUS FUCK YOUUU!!! Oh my god I knew sevro was done for when he got married and everything was happy. This series really holds nothing back does it 😭😭😭

I honestly had so much hope for Cassius. It felt wayyyy too easy tho, especially for all that he went through while captured. I can’t believe that tho especially after sevro saved his life and FORGAVE HIM!! Sevros charecter development was incredible and I now realize pierce brown is a genius and I’m a damn fool. I can’t wait to start the next one but I’m brokennnnn

EDIT: okay okay I just thought of a theory- don’t confirm or deny. WHAT IF Cassius did that to get Darrow close to the sovereign so he can take her out?? Idk.

2nd EDIT: HOLY SHIT I WAS RIGHT!!!! Yay!!

2rd EDIT: okay I just finished it and I’m blown away. The ending was a little flat to me with the exposition dumb but it’s honestly a great ending to the first trilogy. Wow. I’m in awe. Thank you all for sticking this out with me and YAY LITTLE PAX!!!! I just bought iron gold lol

What color would you be and why?

In a world where we don’t have the inequality what color would you be? (And don’t just say gold cause they’re on top)

IRL I’m either a low red or a yellow, in a landscaper with degrees in horticulture.

But Personally as a tall and broad woman I feel most drawn to obsidians. I work outdoors, I love working out, I’ve done physical labor my whole life and I absolutely could live in eternal winter cause I love the cold and I have strong family heritage in Norway so an obsidian would be sick. I also have hella tattoos. Idk something I think about lol

Currently listening to the dramatized version of morning star.

Okay so I run a mowing crew so I get to just listen to stuff all day and I’m listening to the dramatized audio book of morning star and at the part where he gets rescued from the jackals prison and he’s on the ship and TELL ME WHY IM STRAIGHT UP IN TEARS!!! I screamed so loud when the claw drill burst up out of the ground and when sevro was revealed as ares!!! AHHHHHHHHH!!!!! My client came out and asked if I was okay cause she heard me screaming lol

The music, particularly bagpipes, adds so much to the tender moments between Darrow and all the reds. So much happened while he was in that box but omg I’m getting so emotional over this shit. Pierce brown is a genius!!!

Just finished golden son..

Hollllyyyyy shit. Oh my god. Oh my god oh my god. I literally just finished it like two minutes ago and WHAT?? WHAAATTTTT??? Please don’t give me any spoils I’m just in AWE!!! Like I was not expecting that at all and I can see why this series is so popular cause red rising was a nice read but golden son felt like we went from 10mph to 100mph in two seconds like Jesus Christ. Does the shock value get any worse or better?

Also tell me something from morning star I won’t get until I read it!! This series is AMAZING!

About to start Toms crossing by Mark Z. Danielewski and I'm scared

The largest book I've ever read was around 800 pages and it was double spaced. I have the hardbound version of this BEAST and i'm honestly nervous lol. This thing is DENSE. Ive heard amazing things about it and I cant wait to start but I always get scared I won't finish a large book once I start and I HATE not finishing anything I read, even if I hate it. Does anyone else get like this? I need some hype to start this honkin beast.

Just finished The Only Good Indians..

Disclosure: I’m not Native American so some themes and representation probably went right over my head.

Okay okay okay… that book was absolutely AMAZING!!!! From the way it was written in third person with occasional SECOND person POVS?? Amazing. The second person povs threw me off so much I had to remember wtf was happening. The way it described what Lewis did to the elk, how it took so long to die and the fact he buried a living embryo… insane. The whole theme of “being a good Indian” was incredible and I feel like probably something felt by natives (I’m not one so I’m sorry if that’s wrong) but with the destruction of their culture and the west taking everything I can imagine the pressure one much feel growing up native to honor the ones that came before you and still do “native” things? I feel that way with my Italian heritage. My mom and dad are both immigrants and I feel like I’m already losing what it means to be Italian and stay true to my culture. Amazing but sad stuff.

Ugh Jesus then the whole reveal that Shaney WAS actually elk head woman the whole time and she killed lewises dog and the dog tried to run cause she was coming over and hung itself on the fence. The whole time she just wanted to orchestrate their own death and let them lose EVERYTHING before they actually died like how she felt. Insane. Absolutely insane.

Overall I thought it was brilliant… until the end.

Almost the whole time Denorah is playing basketball with the elk head woman I was like what the hell is this. Denorah just got into this and she knows what’s going on??? And she’s just casually playing basketball with her?? I know it was playing to the theme of elk head woman taking everything they love but why was she even attacking her? I expected her to be more sympathetic towards Gabe’s “calf” since she lost her own calf. She genuinely had nothing to do with the plot like and the ending was incredibly dumb IMO and just fell flat. It would’ve been great if the author could’ve wrapped it up with the sweat lodge. The dialogue with Denorah was cheesy, same with elk head woman, and the ending where Denorah literally just tells her dad not to shoot her then the woman turns into an elk and walks away with the embryo that was buried ten years ago?? Idk maybe I’m missing something but all that hype for the whole book felt like it was for nothing.

I give it a solid 7/10. I would definitely read again but I think I’d stop at the end of the sweat lodge stuff.

EDIT: I understand the basketball stuff now thank you

Any good liminal and analog horror books?

I just bought horrorstörr and I would love some recs based on liminal and analog horror. I know both of those rely heavily on visuals so I’m curious if there’s anything out there as a book that’s close to those genres. Thanks!

Horror books with physically giant antagonists or protagonists?

I have a love for a niche genre of horror that features physically large threats? Like giants or if the protagonist is giant? Idk it’s hard to explain. Love craft doesn’t scratch my itch. I don’t really like giant monster type things like sea monsters or kaijus, I prefer them more humanoid. I can’t find ANYTHING and it makes me sad, please help.

Books with giants as main character or supporting character?

I love anything mythical or non mythical with giants in them, doesn’t really matter the genre but there’s not many out there that feature them as a main / supporting character - most of the time they’re in the back ground.

Don’t recommend the BFG, iron giant, or any other kid focused ones please I’ve heard it like 1000000 time lol. I need an adult version lol thanks!

Im 300 pages deep in my story and now I feel like I need to change everything

Ive been working on this fantasy story for a few years now, the longest I've ever consistently worked on something, and im so far along now and the plot and characters have changed so much it doesn't match the beginning.

What's the best way to go about fixing this? Should I make an entire outline and follow it step by step and start fresh or go back and edit what already exists? So much is happening but I feel like my story is finally going where I want I just don't know what's the most efficient way to rewrite/fix this while keeping it consistent.

Just finished the princess bride!

I’m so stupid and never even realized that there was a book, having grown up on solely the movie. The book grabbed my heart strings and PULLED!!! Fezzik is my favorite by FAR!! He truly was the backbone of the entire story-without him they couldn’t have done anything.

Buttercup was kinda useless but had good moments, and everything else was honestly just fantastic. It gripped me in a way that I don’t even want to move on to other books cause I want to clutch onto that one for forever. The ending with fezzik broke my heart and I’m so glad that wasn’t in the movie.

I also have to give so much credit to Goldman for the whole Morgenstern stuff cause it had me looking up the original book to try to find it lol. It IS the original!! Just such an amazing book, I wish it lasted longer. I’m definitely going to be reading it again. It’s absolutely my favorite book now!!

Just finished The Queen by Nick Cutter

Okay so I LOVE Nick cutter. He is a phenomenal horror author in my opinion. I love how he describes body horror and the characters personalities. The troop and the Dorian’s are phenomenal but I think my favorite by him has to be the Dorian’s. Saying that, I did NOT like The Queen. I just finished it a few minutes ago and I’m just sad. A major complaint I have with him is his endings always seem to fall flat for me, and that’s what the queen did x10.

Anyone else feel the same?

I was confused and annoyed most of the time, maybe it’s me but the ending was just stupid. The whole ballroom scene and the reveal of the queen just completely let me down after it built up to it for so long. Ugh.

Burn out on Horror?

Pretty much all I consume is horror lit. A few dark romances here and there along with some fantasy but most of the time it's some sort of horror. Does anyone else get burnt out? My passion is horror so when I start to feel burnt off I feel sad. Most of the stuff is pretty heavy too but I find I get bored with other genres.

What do you guys do when you feel like this? Do you ever feel like this? Are there any comedy horror books you like or more light hearted stuff to get you out of the slump?

What genres do you take a break with?

Also, does reading horror ever wear on your mental health? I'm always at a conflict with this. I LOVE horror. It's why I love reading but sometimes the really heavy shit gets to me and I feel like a bad person for reading it. Idk what's wrong with me, I've never really felt like this before and am just curious if anyone else gets like this.

I just finished Child of God by Cormac McCarthy and had a moment of "why am I reading this" (EVEN THO I LOVED THE BOOK!!!) I've never had before.

Just finished the Last Werewolf by Glen Duncan

I just finished The Last Werewolf by Glen Duncan and am just confused and mad lmao. It was a beautifully written book but Jesus did it lose me. Am I just stupid or did anyone else thats read this felt the same? The protagonist, Jake, was kind of mopey and insufferable through out the whole thing and talked about his dick way too much.

Then the freaking ending sucked all the life out of me. All this talk of him wanting to die then him finding his mate and wanting to live for her was great but then to go and die like THAT??? UGH! And I felt like the meeting between him and Talula was just random and stupid. Idk it was a chore to get through but I hate not finishing books so I did it anyway and now im mad lol.

I want something TRULY horrifying!!

I love body horror, psychological, supernatural, basically anything except campy/creature feature stuff. It's so hard for me to actually feel scared while reading something and I WANT to feel scared. Please give me recommendations for things you felt legitimately scared while reading.

Some books I've read and LOVED:

Tender is the Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica

The Troop by Nick Cutter

Gone to to see the River Man by Kristopher Triana

House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski (though it bored me out of my mind at some parts)

The Road by Cormac McCarthy
