Traveling to Pittsburgh from the Midwest, but now the convention has been canceled. What do I do?

I’m very sad. Last year was my first visit to Pittsburgh for a men’s only retreat in Pittsburgh and had so much fun. We also went to museums and the zoo besides the convention. Well, the organizer reached out to me and informed me due to some concerns, it’s postponed/canceled for now. Apparently he received a threat and didn’t want to risk an event for gay men. I’m depressed, to say the least.

I spent a lot on our plane ride, and I didn’t get insurance because I never thought the event would be canceled. Our trip is from July 30th-August 4th. The convention was going to provide us with a room, but now that it’s canceled, we don’t have one.

What should we do? Would love some insights from the locals.

Is it realistic to get a train to a place we haven’t been, like DC? I have no idea. Any recommendations? We did a lot of local touristy stuff last year, and to be in town when we initially supposed to go to a convention would bum us out.

Any advice would be great.

Hi All,

Last year I went to Pittsburgh for the first time to attend a convention downtown. It was a lot of fun! We’re planning on going back this year, but I see it has moved out of downtown… It’s now somewhere called Harmarville, which is apparently nearby?

I’m trying to figure this out. Last year public transportation took us from the airport to downtown just fine. BUT, now since Harmarville is further out of town, I’m nervous.

The convention is advertising it as being in Pittsburgh, but it’s not. How hard is to get to Harmarville without a car? Any advice would be great. We don’t like spending a lot of money on Uber, so if we can’t get there on public transportation, we’re probably not going..
