Antidepressants or not ?

I recently discovered the term “anhedonia,” and it describes exactly what I’m experiencing.

For context, I have Crohn’s disease and tried several treatments for it years ago, but none of them had any positive effect.

As my symptoms got worse (I lost almost 50 lbs), I decided to undergo FMT, which worked very well for my Crohn’s disease but, a few minutes after the FMT, it completely took away my sense of humanity and also caused sexual dysfunction. This was 6 months ago, and nothing has improved since.

Could trying antidepressants help me, considering that my problems are not related to any traumatic or dramatic events, but rather seem to have been caused by a bad reaction to the FMT?

Thank you for your response

FMT

Hello, I’m new to this site. I wanted to leave a message because I’d like to know whether anyone has had a similar experience to mine.

I have Crohn’s disease, which causes me numerous physical symptoms. Eating had become very difficult, so I made the unfortunate decision to try an FMT (fecal microbiota transplant), hoping it would improve my digestive symptoms. It actually worked very well: I have significantly fewer digestive symptoms, and my energy levels have also improved considerably.

Unfortunately, I developed what seems to be a kind of paradoxical reaction that affected both my mental and sexual health.

I lost my ability to experience pleasure. I feel empty, and I can no longer feel anything not even libido or sexual desire. Not to mention the erectile dysfunction that came along with it.

I have consulted several gastroenterologists, but none of them had ever heard of this kind of adverse reaction. They suggested that I wait and see, but unfortunately nothing is improving. It has already been six months.

I experienced this strange reaction just a few minutes after the fecal transplant was administered into my colon.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.
