What if Dark World appearances are chosen by the Fountain creator?
We were never actually told how Lightners get their appearances in Dark Worlds in Deltarune.
What if people/monsters look the way the Fountain creator wants them to look?
Think about it. Almost every Fountain we’ve seen so far (except Chapter 3’s world and Susie’s small world in Chapter 4) was most likely created by the Knight. And if that’s true, then maybe the Knight is the one choosing how Lightners appear in those Dark Worlds.
Kris becomes a blue knight-like hero.
Susie becomes this purple punk/bruiser type character.
Noelle gets a white robe and looks almost like a holy mage.
So here’s the important part:
What if the Knight intentionally gives THEMSELF a different appearance in the Dark Worlds they create in order to hide their identity?
We already know that Lightners usually don’t change THAT much when entering a Dark World. Their clothes change, sure, but their actual appearance mostly stays recognizable.
And at the end of Chapter 3, we saw that the Knight dragged Undyne into the bunker, which basically confirms the Knight is a Lightner.
So what if, in future chapters, we actually SEE the Knight in a Dark World, but because it’s THEIR Fountain, they use a completely different appearance to avoid being recognized?
This could also explain why Kris keeps the same appearance in Chapters 3 and 4. Kris is clearly working with the Knight already. Kris opened the Fountain at home following the Knight’s instructions, which is why their appearance stayed consistent.
Then Susie creates her own Fountain in Chapter 4. Since she already knew what Kris and herself looked like in Dark Worlds, their forms stayed mostly the same there too (aside from the different color palette).
But the Knight never appears in Susie’s Fountain.
Even though Susie knows what the Knight looks like, she could’ve intentionally imagined them differently — maybe making them resemble another Lightner. Because of that, the Knight avoids entering the Fountain entirely.
We’ve also been told multiple times that the Knight can sense new Fountains, similar to Ralsei. So when the Knight sensed a new world that wasn’t created by them or one of their allies, they probably decided not to risk entering it. (im not sure about that, but anyway)
The theory sounds insane, but honestly… it fits surprisingly well with how Fountain creation works.
