Would any of you fine folks be willing to help identify this oddball seedling?
Hello! My wife was pulling weeds in our backyard today and accidentally pulled up this little guy. We’re in zone 6, Chicago to be precise. The leaf tips have a light reddish brown tint and the stem/root feels woody. My wife is concerned that she might have killed something helpful, I am of the school of thought that helpful or not, we don’t need random trees sprouting in our backyard. But neither of us know what exactly this plant is.
