ANTM’s Asian Issue

One of the biggest missed opportunities on the show was not having at least one Asian winner out of 24 cycles of competition. Which Asian contestant do you think had the strongest chance of becoming America’s next top model?

The Power of Fandom

I realized recently that most of my favorite ships revolve around characters who are not major figures in their shows. What fascinates me is how easily fandom can convince people who have never watched the series that these side characters are actually central.

A friend of mine genuinely thought Tommy was a main character on 9‑1‑1. I had to explain that he appears in only about 13 out of more than 100 episodes. They were stunned. Then they asked why some fans, including me, talk about him like he is one of the leads. My answer was simple. It is the power of fandom. The days of writers trying to convince us who matters and who doesn’t is over. We, the fans, through fan fiction and fan art, get to decide who is important.

The same thing happened to me with The Pitt. I was convinced Shawn Hatosy was a main actor alongside Noah Wyle. I was shocked when I learned that Hatosy’s character, Dr. Jack Abbot, was only recurring. I have read so many fanfics about him and Dr. Robby, and I have seen countless Tumblr posts treating those two like the emotional center of the show.

Fandom has a way of reshaping the hierarchy of who matters.

Can you think of any other characters who fit the same mold as Tommy Kinard and Dr. Jack Abbot?

Saints and Sinners: May Grant

The best part of 9‑1‑1 isn’t the natural disasters or the bizarre emergencies — like someone getting a tapeworm yanked out of their rectum in the back of a moving vehicle. The real reason we tune in week after week, season after season, is the characters. We love them. Even when they irritate us. Even when they make choices that have us yelling at the screen.

Next up: May Grant.

Saint: May stepping up for the woman who nearly died during the tsunami was one of her purest, most empathetic moments. And her ability to find forgiveness for Laila McCreedy — the girl who bullied her so viciously she almost ended her own life — shows a level of emotional maturity that’s rare on this show.

Sinner: Interrupting Bobby and Athena’s sexytimes role‑playing and then catching an attitude about it? Absolutely chaotic behavior. A true sinner moment.

Saints and Sinners: Maddie Buckley-Han

The best part of 9‑1‑1 isn’t the natural disasters or the bizarre emergencies — like someone getting a tapeworm yanked out of their rectum in the back of a moving vehicle. The real reason we tune in week after week, season after season, is the characters. We love them. Even when they irritate us. Even when they make choices that have us yelling at the screen.

Next up: Maddie Buckley‑Han.

In your opinion, what’s the best thing Maddie has done in the canon of the show, and what’s the worst thing she’s done?

Saint: When Maddie showed up for the girl with the drone who lost her friend during the tsunami, I thought that was so sweet.

Sinner: Good intentions or not, when Maddie stalked and befriended the woman who called 9-1-1 because her husband was being abusive, I'm honestly surprised she didn't lose her job.

8x05 “Masks” Question

I have watched this episode an unhealthy amount of times and what thing that’s always struck me as odd is the first scene. Was the scene with Hen, Karen, Denny, Mara and Jee were dressed as Wizard of Oz characters a flash-forward or were they doing a “dress rehearsal” before Halloween. If it’s the later, Hen and Karen’s makeup was so elaborate to just dress up for pictures.

Saints and Sinners: Evan Buckley

The best part of 9-1-1 isn’t the natural disaster episodes or people getting tapeworms removed from their rectum in the back of a moving vehicle. The reason we tune in from week to week, season to season, is because of the characters. We love these characters so much. Even when they irritate us. Or make questionable choices.

So, let’s start with the bestest boy of the series: Evan Buckley.

In your opinion, what’s the best thing that Buck has done within the canon of the show and what’s the worst thing he’s done?

BuckTommy AI Art

I don’t know why this tickles me l but I’ve never seen an AI-generated picture of Lou where the person in the picture looks anything remotely like Lou. That just tells me that our boy’s face card is so specific that not even artificial intelligence can replicate it.
