Appreciation Post: Mollie Sue Steenis-Gondi from America's Next Top Model Cycle 6

Mollie Sue is one of my all favourite model contestants on ANTM. Her elimination still stings to me to this day because i knew she had the passion and the drive to go further. When I saw her for the first time on the show around early 2006 i was at the end of my freshmen high school year during that time and she was so interesting because of her somewhat introverted personality. She was so down-to-earth, grounded and stayed true to her own values that I felt like it was the reason why she got a boring or lacking persona edit by the judges. She chose not to put exaggerated acts or engage in a pretty house drama. Her signature high fashion androgynous look really blurred conventional gender lines which is the reason that propelled her to international editorial and runway success, making her a muse for designers who valued edge over traditional commercial beauty. Her successful post-show work proves that not winning really gave her the opportunity to really explore new things when it comes to her modelling skills. I'm very proud of her because she worked very hard to get where she is now and i'm super happy that she is still modelling and owning it today especially in the runways.

SCO Showdown Photoshoot 11 Round 4 - Angelea and Marvin, running from this wasteland, back to modelland

Trying to understand the rationale about Angelea disqualification

its still something I can't wrap my head around: I get that brands don't want to be associated with women that took part in the sex industry (Although I want to make it absolutely clear, Angelea "participation" wasnt willingly, it was the result of human trafficking) especially when it comes to a brand like covergirl, with their target audience being young girls. Yes, it is hypocritical and unfair, but that is where society is at currently.

But this fact about Angelea wasn't made public at the time cycle 17 had aired. No one had to know. And lets be honest, at that point in time, the show wasn't really culturally relevant, and no one was really interested in researching Angelea past. Furthermore, if covergirl didn't want her to represent their brand, they could have done what they did with countless other winners: not using her in any real campaigns.

I will argue that all of these people that might wouldn't buy covergirl products because of Angelea ended up knowing more about how she "almost" ended up as a covergirl *because* Angelea was disqualified.

Finally, after you disqualified Angelea, you chose...Lisa? You know, that girl that peed in a diaper and had substance abuse issues? What a great, clean, family friendly image.

Any thoughts?

Thoughts about Early-Out Contestants who Didn’t Bring the Drama

Just a thought that has popped up intermittently from the cervices of buried memories within my brain…one can very much tell what had been planned for some early-out contestants that could have kept them around longer for the sake of TV entertainment. It’s pretty obvious when you watch their auditions at the very beginning of their cycles. Most likely, they were cut because that didn’t pan out as production would have hoped. (C9 Victoria being the most noteworthy example.)

But there are also other examples:

C12 Isabella — Production clearly meant to use her history of epilepsy for the sake of TV drama. Hence, why they set up the first runways show to have strobe lights. They were likely hoping she would pitch a fit and flat out refuse to participate à la C1 Robyn/Shannon and C2 Anna, which probably would have gotten her kicked off anyways. Or that she would actually succumb to her epilepsy due to the lights, and would be made into this whole medical emergency serving as the episode’s focus. But, not only did she pull through, she faced the situation with a lot of grace (from what was shown anyways.) So, either production thought she wasn’t interesting enough for TV, or realized in hindsight how much harm an active seizure can cause, and got rid of her out of liability.

C14 Simone — Based on her auditions, she was obviously cast to serve the white-adjacent POC role who grew up among other white people in the affluent suburbs of Kansas and participates in a predominantly white sorority at a prestigious, private university. I imagine production had hoped she would clash with the other POC contestants alongside Brenda, Raina and Jessica due to her history of difficulty forming friendships with other black girls and being different from the “urban stereotype” in which the black community is often painted. They were also hoping that their attempts at “urbanizing” her via the Kesse-inspired makeover and giving her hip-hop as a theme for the music genre shoot would stir the pot more…or maybe bring out any internal racism that might be present for a storyline? In any case, Simone was mostly removed from the drama that cycle, and I believe that was a big reason why she was eventually cut early.

C14: Gabrielle — Prob had hoped her history of dealing with people’s reactions for being biracial would also stir the pot or create a big storyline, but she also ended up being generally drama-free.

C7: Megan — talked about being in a plane crash that killed her mother and production probably planned to arrange a challenge or photo shoot that would resurface any trauma from that incident. For some reason, that never happened and my guess is she was cut partially because of that.

Honestly, if these contestants had went into the competition knowing it was a reality show and how the reality show game works, they could have played into the storylines laid out for them and stayed even longer. It’s not like production took them seriously as professional models anyways.

That’s all I can really think of, but y’all let me know if there are any other examples.

CoverGirl Queen Collection Photoshoot(Cycle 9)

Heather is very regal in her shot and I love that picture of her, absolutely makes up for her commercial(she was set up)

I'm insane for this but I don't think Chantal's picture is that bad.She just looks really stiff and doesn't know what she's trying to do.

But Saleisha gurl...,that could've gave her a proper bob but that hairstyle does not help in any way.

Lisa and Bianca did ok.

I have mixed thoughts on Jenah's picture.Shes really happy in the shot but looks like she catches the ball during baseball and won(she's a queen tho).

Reddit’s Next Top Model Cycle 1 Episode 9A(Who wins? The Favourite or Miss Personality?)

(Today’s Voting)

Best Model Of The Day-

Three beautiful models stand in front of me but only two of you moved on since the voters believed in your capability throughout this competition. This was a really tough journey but we got our finalists!

The first finalist is…

1st:Ebony—You broke the streak at the very end!But even without that, you would still be strong and consistent and that is what a finalist is worth!Congratulations, you are a finalist and you are still in the running towards becoming Reddit’s Next Top Model.

Bottom 2-

Will Adrianne and Elyse please step forward?

Two beautiful models with such strong capabilities stand before me but I only have one photo in my hands and this photo represents the second finalist joining Ebony in the final deliberation.

Adrianne, you came this far and even with a string of Bottom 2s,people still want you in because they believe in you and guess what, you still excelled until now where your fate remains unclear again!

Elyse, you got Best Model for a whole week and you amaze us every time but then, you approval rate is actually dropping but you still remain the favourite till Ebony took it away.

So who is it?Is it the girl who had no Best Model Trophies but voters believe in her sincerely to go on even further or the girl who wins Best Model every damn time but then her approval seems to decline bit by bit?

The girl that will be joining Ebony in the final deliberation is…

>!Elyse. What I’m saying is not to demonetise you but rather to show you the downside of stuff but your hard-earned seven Best Model Of The Day has given you a hard spot in this Final 2.Congratulation,you are a finalist Elyse!!<

>!Thanks Adrianne.Though it may suck not being the winner here, you made it so far because many people believe in you and many people entrusted you even if you had lesser votes than Ebony and Elyse,I appreciate your time here.!<

So you guys are the final two! You’ve travelled this far and one of you will take the flowers while the other runs up to second.Well see you tomorrow!

Are There Any Contestants That You Wish Would Have Made it Just a Little Further so You Could See Them in a Particular Photoshoot That Came Later?

For example:

- in cycle 11, I wish Hannah wasn't eliminated during the fashion show because she had such piercing grey eyes which would have come out gorgeous in the swimming pool photoshoot. Her elimination happened right before that shoot.

- Kyle from cycle 18 would have been so cute in the Hello Kitty photo, with her big eyes, but she was eliminated one weak earlier.

Also, I always wondered which artwork Lisa D'Amato would have been given had she made it to top 5. Would she have been Mona Lisa instead of Bre? Because "Lisa - Mona Lisa"😝

LEAST Favorite Winner Round 1

Welcome to the first round with the losers! I have moved these to a ranked vote, because I'm curious as to how everyone actually feels about each winner. You will be ordering them from 5 points to 1 point.

The model with the MOST POINTS will move to the final loser's round

Congrats to Nyle for winning the final qualifying round! With roughly 55% of the vote, it was only ever between him and India.

India, you have failed to beat Nicole's margin with Eva, so this is the end of the road for you 💕💕

Keith and Kyla, you've not been chosen for the favorites round, but you can still win as a loser! Vote Here!

If you could change one makeover, who’s would it be?

For me?? Brenda would’ve killed a bob. Like a cute little wavy French Bob. There were some really rough makeovers, but this one just killed me inside.

So I was watching the old Greece’s Next Top Model and was shocked to hear this song play when this girl was eliminated from the competition 😂

Song is “True” from Silent Hill 2. It caught me so off guard. This season of NTM ran in 2010-2011. I can just imagine a guy from the editing team being a fan of Silent Hill 2 and thinking “damnnnn this is a perfect moment to play this track”

replacing the infamous “worst photo in Top Model history” title, I actually don’t think Lluvy Gomez deserves it anymore. Which photo from cycle 1-10 should be considered the worst?

How Would You Rank Cycles 1-19 Based on Tyra's Overall Panel Looks?

Putting this together was a lot of work lmao, but I've wanted to make a post like this for a while.

Here's my ranking:

  1. Cycle 13: I love the straight dark hair on her. Definitely the most gorgeous I've seen her.

  2. Cycle 10: Stunning. Love both the fringe look and the rich, soft curls she got later.

  3. Cycle 6: She is just glowing every panel.

  4. Cycle 7: I enjoy the big curls a lot!

  5. Cycle 11: Love the little black riding hood🖤

  6. Cycle 3: The era of Tyra's signature red hair. I'm sad she never went back to red in later cycles or in life.

  7. Cycle 15: If somebody asked me to describe Tyra's looks from this cycle from memory, I would SWEAR she had straight, shoulder-length hair the entire cycle. Only when making these did I realise her hair was curly most of the time. Very gorgeous.

  8. Cycle 14: Kind of clean and simple, and I love it.

  9. Cycle 8: Not crazy about that colour, but I love the head scarf look.

  10. Cycle 9: The straight hair with the fringe is nice, but not nearly as great as cycle 10.

  11. Cycle 2: The most early-2000s imo.

  12. Cycle 12: I wanna like this more than I actually do. The hair being wavy like that doesn't fully work for me.

  13. Cycle 5: Beautiful but not the most memorable.

  14. Cycle 18: I barely have an opinion of these looks. They're good but nothing special.

  15. Cycle 17: Some of the best makeup she has, but one of my least favourite hairstyles.

  16. Cycle 16: The painful beginning of Tyra's hairstyle that I dislike.

  17. Cycle 19: Hit or miss. The pink dress hurts my eyes. Towards the end, in Jamaica, Tyra's hairstyle almost looks like a throwback to her glorious cycle 10 curls in Italy. But her hair looks dry and tired, and it's a very weak version of the look.

  18. Cycle 4: Soccer mom.

  19. Cycle 1: I don't hate it, but it's just the absolute least distinct or memorable of Tyra's looks. If I close my eyes, I can't recall any of them.

So what is your ranking?

did the female judges on ANTM get progressively worse? Every replacement felt like a downgrade. Going from Janice Dickinson to Kelly Cutrone is a wild decline.

Janice to twiggy, Paulina and then Kelly

Renaissance Photoshoot(Cycle 10)

Personally I love this photoshoot and the styling(except the wigs, was Whitney's wig an afro?) was also chic and renaissance.

I don't really feel like I love Whitney's picture, she emoted well but she makes it seem like she just got a wardrobe malfunction and doesn't know what to do.

Anya's pose looks a bit odd but that's fine.

Overall Cycle 10 is full of high fashion themes and this one might be the best out of many.
