Extremely tight 2-hour international self-transfer at LAX (FJ810 to AV525) - Is this physically possible?

Hi everyone,

I have an upcoming international-to-international transit through LAX on July 1st, and my layover is exactly 2 hours on separate tickets.

Here are my flight details

  • Arriving: Fiji Airways (FJ810) from Nadi (NAN) at 13:05 at Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT).
  • Departing: Avianca (AV525) to San Salvador (SAL) at 15:05, also departing from TBIT.

Since these are separate tickets, I know I must clear US Immigration, collect my bags, and check in again at the Avianca counter, which closes strictly 60 minutes before departure (at 14:05). This gives me a 1-hour window from landing to getting to the counter.

I am looking for specific tips, hacks, or guidelines from anyone who has successfully managed a tight self-transfer like this at LAX:

  • Is there any chance Fiji Airways can interline my bags or tag them through to Avianca at my origin airport if I show them both tickets?
  • What is the fastest way to get through TBIT immigration? Are there specific lines or programs I should look for?
  • Once I clear customs, what is the quickest route to the Avianca check-in desks within TBIT?

Any advice, past experiences, or step-by-step strategies to maximize my chances of making this connection would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your help!
