Crazy oil change interval

I just can't follow these 7,500-10,000 mile recommended intervals. I have always religiously done oil changes at 3-4K and have never had any major engine issues with any car I've owned. I'm 53 and grew up in an era where turbo cars had to have the oil changed at 3K or some dealers would void your powertrain warranty. So I decided to change it myself in between the free dealer ones that came with my ESP/maintenance plan. The Bronco is a breeze to change but the results were not what I expected being under 4K. The oil had the strongest oil smell of any car I've done. There is no way that oil should be in there for another 4K. I put some in a clear water bottle and when I put the bottle on its side and rolled it, the entire bottle was jet black inside. Even where there was a thin coating on the top of the bottle when I stopped rolling it, jet black. In the past on other cars at 3-4K there was a hint of the gold color if it was thin enough in the bottle, but not this time. Didn't smell any gas in it or anything, just super strong nasty almost burnt oil. I can still smell it in my garage two days later. With the OEM intervals going up and oil companies selling oil saying it can last 10-20K, I was surprised it was the worst condition first oil change I've done on a new vehicle in 30+ years. I should've gotten an oil analysis kit and sent it out. Are most of you guys following the recommended interval or doing it closer to 3K?

I have a 2025 Badlands SAS with the 2.7L. I want to do an early oil change myself to get the factory oil out. I've watched too many oil analysis videos and all of them recommend doing one at 1K. Based on the test results I would agree. Lots of RTV, metal particulates, etc in it. My question is for anyone with a 2025 that has done their own oil change. What oil pan plug did you have? I've read quite a few things stating they changed it during 2025MY. The 2021 to sometime in 2025 has a single o-ring. The 2025 to 2026 has a double o-ring. Mine was built in March of 2025. I'll probably buy both to play it safe but I just wondered if anyone knew.
