Hello! So I have never screen printed before, and I am planing a project and seeing how feasible it is/if anyone has insight. I wanted to do a button up printed with an image of my cat.

I have looked at a lot of inspiration pictures (I will include them in the post), right now I imagine an image on the back of the shirt (on the upper half )and an image on the front. I like the idea of the design crossing over the buttons, but I will have to remove the buttons to get a smooth print, correct? Even if I remove them is it still possible to get a smooth print (especially as a beginner)?

I am looking at one of the speedball kits (https://www.michaels.com/product/speedball-advanced-allinone-screen-printing-kit-10231294 from either michaels, blick, or amazon) to burn my own screen and everything. I plan on looking for a local place to print the transparency film (if there are any chicago recs please lmk - especially if I can do a business other than like staples or something). The designs won’’t be huge, but my plan is for the one on the back to be around 12 inches long, 8 high and the front design probably around 8 inches long, 12 inches high.

I plan on doing it in either red or black, I’ve heard some colors are more difficult than others, is this true?

I also wanted to ask about how I decide which mesh to get? I want the print to be able to have half-tones like the ones in the Sade t-shirt print I have included.

I have read through the FAQ, im just not sure if there is anything I am not considering or questions I am forgetting to ask.
