Commencement thoughts?
I'm a 2015 Alum - Heels til I die.. I cant even remember who the speaker was at my graduation, some tech CEO or something without much of importance to say. I also have been seeing all the clips online of cringe AI bootlicking speeches getting, thankfully, booed by graduates across the country. I know the bar is really low. My dad sent me the Eric Church speech today and was gushing about it, "best commencement speech ever," etc. I dont know much about Eric Church as i'm not a country music fan - i do know that he's seemingly more apolitical/liberal than most country artists, and a well liked person in the music industry. I dont think it was the greatest speech ever, but it was memorable and felt like it came from a sincere place, that essentially any Tar Heels could rally around.
What did you students/2026 graduates think? Did it resonate with you at all? Was there controversy around campus considering the crappy optics of a white dude country singer doing this speech at this time? Considering how many people are talking about it, i'm surprised to not see a thread on here about it. Go to Hell Dook
