Today, I attended an interview with a recruitment agency that acts as a connection between candidates and companies. The interviewer greeted me took me into a small conference room and began asking questions about my resume. I answered normally and then she asked me to tell her about myself. As I started introducing myself she suddenly interrupted me and said, “You’re yelling at me, and I don’t feel comfortable.” I was genuinely shocked, as I was not yelling perhaps my natural tone of voice is simply stronger than hers yet I’m a girl and despite that I immediately apologized and lowered my voice. We continued the interview, but her facial expressions suggested she remained upset or dissatisfied throughout, even though I stayed calm. The experience was disappointing mainly because of how abruptly and harshly the situation was addressed. A more professional approach, such as politely asking me to lower my voice, would have made a significant difference. I’m really traumatized
