6 Month Employment Enquiry

Hi everyone, looking for some advice regarding the UK spouse visa financial requirement and whether our situation would fall under Category A.

My husband (the sponsor) started working for his current employer on 23 February 2026, so he’ll reach 6 months with the same employer on 23 August 2026. We’re hoping to apply at the beginning of September.

His employment contract says permanent with 38 hours guaranteed pay.

He’s paid weekly on an hourly rate:

  • Monday–Friday: £15.63/hour
  • Saturday/Sunday: £17.70/hour

However, when he first started, his pay was lower:

  • £12.75/hour (trainee rate) initially
  • Increased to £13.36/hour (trainee rate) in the first week of April
  • Then later increased to his current rate

Based on our calculations, by September his income over the 6-month period should be above the £29k financial requirement.

Would this still count as Category A since he’ll have been with the same employer for over 6 months, even though his hourly rate changed during that time? Or would it be safer to wait a bit longer before applying?

We’re hoping to apply with priority because our anniversary is in December, and after 2 years apart we’d really love to finally be together properly again. We do visit each other when we can — I last saw him in January, and he’s coming to visit again in June during a 4-day break from work.

We’d really appreciate any advice or experiences from anyone who’s been in a similar situation. Thank you!

Previous Financial Refusal & Border Refusal — Do I Now Meet the UK Spouse Visa Financial Requirement?

Hi everyone,

I wanted to ask for some advice/opinions about whether I now meet the UK spouse visa financial requirement after previous refusals.

I previously had a refusal in 2023 because I did not meet the financial requirement (self employed) at the time. Then in June 2024, I was also refused entry at the border because of my immigration history and concerns about my intentions due to frequent visits but mentions did not overstay on the refusal letter just spent more time in uk then in my home country (eu citizen).

(EDIT:)
UK Spouse has been working consistently and have now completed 26 weeks with the following gross weekly pay: (currently in permanent employment (just over 6 months with same employer) with guaranteed 38 hours £15.56 per hour (monday to Friday) and £17.70 (Saturday and Sunday).

  • Total gross pay over 26 weeks: £15,716.02
  • Average weekly gross pay: about £604.46
  • Equivalent annual salary based on this average: about £31,432

UK Spouses weekly pay has generally been stable around £600+ per week, although the first couple of weeks were lower.

Do you think this would satisfy the financial requirement now, especially considering the previous refusal history? Has anyone been approved after a prior financial refusal and a later border refusal?

I’m mainly worried whether UKVI might still focus heavily on the previous refusals even if the financial requirement is now met.

Any advice or similar experiences would really help. Thanks!
