My updated all-BOSS board
This is an update on my board since my previous post about it, on which I received many helpful comments. I've made two changes since that time:
My board is a D'Addario XPND 1, and it has reached the end of its length, but I view this as a welcome constraint because it's causing me to be very methodical about my decisions. That's one of the reasons I chose the PX-1.
- I took the advice from a number of commenters on my previous post to look into the FZ-1w, and I loved it! I tried it in multiple positions and it worked well in all of them, but I'm convinced that it's impacted a little bit if it's not the first in the chain and it sounded best there. So I have the FZ-1w wired right after the TU-3w, which is in bypass mode, followed by the CP-1x with very light settings. The compressor just gently smooths the extremes from the fuzz while still doing its usual “make everything sound better” magic. Physically, the CP-1x sits where it does because it’s basically always on, and I like having all the gain pedals grouped together since I sometimes stomp two at once.
- I was also intrigued by the PX-1 (I know, I know), at least as a way to explore Boss effects without buying each of them, and I really like it. I've currently placed it where the SD-1w used to be because it can take the SD-1 role, but I can also use it for other purposes depending on the song (SP-1, DD-2, BF-2, CE-2, etc). I'm really liking this experiment so far.
I still get reverb from my amps (Deluxe Reverb and Katana Gen III), so I have not gotten into reverb pedals. I have not updated my power - still use a 1-Spot Mini with a daisy chain and it's serving me well with no perceptible noise.
Would love to hear everyone's thoughts!
Signal Chain: TU-3w (bypass mode) -> FZ-1w -> CP-1x -> BD-2w -> PX-1 -> BP-1w -> DM-2w
Update: Somehow the two detailed points of my board changes were gone(!), so I reposted them.
