Options to run my pedalboard through headphones.

I run a very simple chain - drive, reverb, delay. Now I want an amp sim pedal (ideally Marshall type) I can add to the end of this and play through headphones. I tired the iridium and it sounded like garbage through my headphones once I turned my drives on. Is there any options you guys would recommend?

HELP what should I get next?

I was thinking about a good fuzz and a reverb maybe, I use this for bass and guitar

As an offshoot of the favourite reverb thread - what’s you’re cheapest set and forget reverb?

I mainly gravitate towards a ROOM type effect, and after wanting a blue sky for years, I’ve just realized I need a good sounding cheap-ass pedal…

What do you think is the best base tone pedal?

Hello everyone!

I am playing a Jazzmaster Player ll into a UAD Dream 65' and I find that my tone feels a bit anemic and lacks a lot of sustain. I use a Fairfield Circuitry 900 Fuzz for distorted tones.

I am looking for an OD, Boost, Compressor or any pedal that you guys find useful to get that clean sustaining tone.

Some options I am considering:

- Benson Germanium Preamp

- BOSS BP-1w

- Fairfield Circuitry Barbershop

Let me know your thoughts.

What effects are amp-exclusive?

Looking for my first ever amp. I've heard that in most cases effect pedals sound better than when they're built into an amp. That's why I'm thinking about buying an amp, and buying all the effect pedals seperately (e.g. overdrive). So what amp would I be looking for? What effects do they have? Also would you recommend to do what I'm thinking of?

Aiming for a budget of up to 300 euros maybe, but can differ.

An EQ pedal is a phenomenal clean boost!

I've always been too scared to do drastic changes when dialing in my Boss EQ200. One day I decided to leave all the dials flat and boost the volume up to about the 70% mark and hoo boy it's perfect paired with my Royalist preamp pedal.

Issue with a vintage 1979 Reticon MXR Stereo Chorus

TLDR: there's an intermittent issue where there's no effected signal, but if I turn it on/off a couple times and/or probe the Reticon output, then it functions totally fine. When it is in it's non-functioning state, if I probe the Reticon input I have signal, but when I probe the output I get static. I'm wondering if this is what happens when a BBD chip starts going bad, or if it just means that some other component connected to the BBD chip has an intermittent problem? And if the Reticon chip is okay, but something else around it is bad, do I risk damaging it by continuing to use/test it with power connected

More info:

I got this in a non-functioning state, converted from AC to DC, and then I'd get a couple seconds of effect before I'd get a "windy/staticy" noise (more like brown noise than white noise) and then the effect would cut out and I'd just have a clean signal. Bypass signal is always okay.

I tested voltages on the Reticon 5105, clock chip, and other op amps/transistors, and everything seems reasonable, except I had a lowish voltage on the Reticon output. I was thinking maybe it was a bias thing, so I tried adjusting the trims, which were all seized up, but I eventually, carefully, I got them unstuck. Moving the Reticon bias trim back and forth some brough the voltage up on the Reticon output, but where the trim was set initially seemed right judging by ear. Could whatever build up that was making the trims stick also have been making the bias connection faulty? Should I hit all those trims with some deoxit or something?

When it is working properly I get modulated signal on the output and can trace that modulated signal through the rest of the circuit with my probe.

Also weird and worth mentioning: it seems to work more reliably when I'm testing it with a sine wave and probe than when I actually have it connected to a guitar and amp. I assume it's just a coincidence, but could there be something about differences in voltages/impedances that's "jump starting" it or killing it?

Thanks!

Anyone Know Greer LightSpeed "Custom"?

Opened up my Greer LightSpeed and It says "custom" in sharpie. Any idea what that means? Thanks!

Drives with a Rat tone control?

I’ve slowly learned how important tone controls are to the sound of a pedal. Is there any other pedals outside of a Rat that has the same tone control as a Rat? I know a Katzenkonig does and I believe the Soul Driver does as well

Significant volume drop when maxed out volume on rat 2

I think I have found the culprit. R1 is completely burnt. What could have possibly caused this? I only use 9v and have never used it with anything other than instrument level instruments.

Hi there! I wanted to ask you about rhythm

I read a post in my saved page where there’s a guy who talks about loving being a rhythm player more than being lead and that got me thinking. I love exploring different tastes of music and different genres and one things for sure is all it needs is a good rhythm. So my question is what albums do you listen to or play along to that are extremely enjoyable and fun but also has helped improve your techniques and rhythm. Doesn’t have to be a certain genre, it can be any, make it rock, metal, funk, punk, r&b I just love hearing different opinions!

Please help!

My Proco Rat has started acting up. Very crackly when touching the pedal and cutting out. I know absolutely NOTHING about the inner workings of my pedals but I opened it up to have a gander. I noticed a wire wasn't connected. Is this the reason for my issues? Is this an easy fix for a moron like me?

Please help!

Which of these 2 would be better as a solo boost before an IR-2?

I’ve made the switch to an ampless rig for reasons. I basically use a Boss IR-2 clean Twin as my base clean and pedal platform. I use an OCD clone as my crunch rhythm sound. Without getting into more details on the rest of my rig, here is my problem: I’ve found since switching to the IR-2, it compresses the pedals that used to be effective solo boosts (Turbo Rat being one that used to work great, but not anymore). The JHS Preamp Overdrive (DOD 250 clone) is the only thing that still adds boost and gain to some degree (I do have plenty of headroom), but as this pedal has no EQ adjustments, only gain and level, it adds way too much low end and is way too muddy.

From what I can tell based on google searches and YouTube videos, 2 good options for me look like the EQD Special Cranker and the MXR Timmy OD. As far as I can tell, they seem to share similar qualities (circuits?) as the DOD 250 but with more tonal adjustments and seemingly better overall tone for what I’m looking for.

Has anyone used either of these pedals before an IR-2, and if so, what are your thoughts? Preferably, has anyone used either as a boost stacked after an OCD or a similar OD?

I know I always have the option of just using the crunch channel on the IR-2 as a lead channel, but I’m hoping to avoid that if I can find another option.

Thank you in advance for reading and any insight or advice is much appreciated.

Delay Pedals with Reverb

Looking for my first delay pedal and it would be nice if it included reverb. I own a Marshall DSL40 CR and the Reverb in this amp is okay, but I would like an alternative.

My two top picks would be the EQD Dispatch Master and the Line 6 DL4 MK2. Which would you choose?

Can’t decide on the two

I’ve only used the Strymon OB.1 pedal so I’m a little new to compressor pedals and have been looking at these two but undecided on which one to get, could use some constructive advice, I put together various pedalboards for different types of music and amplifiers, eventually will be putting together an all wet dry wet pedalboard using the Lichtlaerm Audio PandorA for the dry going into a Orange PPC412-ABK and the Universal Audio UAFX Lion '68 Super Lead Amp Pedal for the right and left wet signal and that will be going into one of each Laney LFR-212 Full-Range Flat Response Active Cabinet but that’s long aways away future project for now I will be using a either a Orange super crush 100 and a Laney LFR-212 Full-Range Flat Response Active Cabinet for a wet dry setup mainly playing doom shoegaze sludge punk rock, rockabilly and blues and jazz at times. Any other suggestions are welcome.

At what point is a power supply necessary?

Title. I know this sub is big on high quality power supplies, but I’m wondering when it officially becomes worth it to spend the money. And I apologize if it’s been asked already, I searched around a bit and didn’t see this being discussed specifically.

Right now I have 3 pedals and I’m pulling the trigger on a 4th one soon. The pedals I have are an old Fender tuner, a Digitech drop, an MXR Micro Chorus, and I’ll be buying an MXR Custom Badass Modified OD (what a mouthful) in the next day or so.

I intend to buy a few more over time, a Crybaby, Carbon Copy, Clone Looper, a Boss tuner, and maybe a Phase 90. All analog and low draw aside from the Digitech, I like to keep it simple.

Obviously by the time I have all those pedals a power supply is very worth it, but in the meantime I get by with my 1Spot daisy chain just fine for the few pedals I have, although it’s pretty annoying that I have to use a separate plug for the Digitech. At what point should I cough up the money?

I’m eyeing the Pedal Power 3+. I know Cioks is supposed to be better but I like that the Pedal Power is made in the US and is still a little cheaper for more outputs, for growths sake, just in case.

TLDR; low fuss board owner/planner using a 1Spot daisy chain, wondering when is the best time to upgrade power without feeling like I spent a lot of money for not a lot of immediate ROI.

Pedal tuner that runs on a 9V?

Are there any good pedal tuners that run on a 9V? Honestly, I’m mostly looking at it mostly as a kill switch when playing live to cut noise and/or switch guitars without messing with the mixer. I have a show next month and use one guitar on three songs (acoustic and the preamp has a tuner, so not needed here) and just one song with an electric. Others may also use that chain, so there could be guitar swapping. But I won’t need to tune during the show

The reason I say 9V is because my pedal board power supply is maxed out as is the surge protector that will be nearby. So, I won’t be able to use a standalone power supply, even if I wanted to.

Alternatively, does a 9V powered kill switch in a pedal exist?

How does MXR shin-juku drive sound?

I was thinking about getting an overdrive that doesn't cut off bass or at least does it insignificantly. The most obvious choice would be Timmy but then I saw someone around is selling Shin-juku.

I was always intrigued by this pedal but since it's an original circuit it's hard to find any info about how it behaves.

Can some user write some words about it's relation towards bass frequencies? Obviously, I'm not looking for Timmy alternative, I'm just wondering if it would work for me.

Finally..

After months of intense GAS, I think I’ve got the board where I want it to be…for now. EAE Mirror House is calling my name but I think I need to chill I’m supposed to be saving…right?
