UTI symptoms for months now but negative cultures (w, 25)
Last September, I had a sudden onset of UTI symptoms. Urgency from one day to the next, and very smelly urine. I’d had a UTI before that was much worse (with blood and even stronger urgency), so at first I didn’t think much of it. When we got back from the trip it eased up a bit, and that’s actually part of the problem: my symptoms have been hugely fluctuating ever since. Sometimes I’ll have 1–2 weeks with almost no symptoms (except the smelly urine, which is ALWAYS there), and sometimes I can barely stand it.
My main symptoms are an extreme urgency/burning feeling right at the urethra, especially when my bladder is empty (mornings and evenings). When I drink, the discomfort eases. The urine itself smells off, often has small white/transparent particles in it, and is cloudy.
Over the past months I’ve seen several doctors. All of them prescribed herbal stuff and pelvic floor physio because my cultures kept coming back negative. My hypothesis is that the cultures are done with urine that hasn’t been sitting in my bladder long enough, because the dipsticks I do with my first morning urine are ALWAYS nitrite positive (I’ve probably done 30+ by now). No doctor seems interested in this. Ureaplasma, mycoplasma and STIs have all been ruled out.
Has anyone had a similar pattern and does anyone have recommendations for clinicians in Switzerland, Germany or Austria? I am feeling really helpless by now, so any suggestion oder advice would be appreciated!!
