How common is it for drivers to find a way to bypass idle fees? I've heard of some apps that let you hit "stop" in the app - this stops the session and the idle fees actually stop accruing even if you're still plugged in! Is this common? Of course i don't want to hog a charger and do that myself, but it is frustrating how some people don't move, especially during road trip season, and I wonder if it's because they found some little hack like this? 🤔

TLDR:
I'm in Canada. Bummed I failed adult level 1 because of two foot turn struggles. I mean do people fail level 1? 🤦‍♀️😭

I'm 38 and taking skating lessons with a skating club. I skated recreationally as a child and haven't been on the ice in about 20 years. Is it common for people to fail level 1 of CanSkate? It makes me so bummed.

I can do everything else in Level 1. I really found my muscle memory stroking forward. But, I can't do my stationary 2 foot turns well consistently. My instructor said she'd "keep me at the current level" until I have it down pat. I also struggled gliding then quickly doing a 2 foot turn.

I took lessons for fun, not to feel like I'm back in grade school missing a gold star on the clipboard 😞 It just sucked all the joy out of it. I have one more class to go - I'm just gonna go and not worry about "passing" if I've already been told i'd be kept at same level...

For what it's worth, I had a different instructor every time for the first 4 of 8 classes, so it was like day 1 over and over again. And, the last 3 have been with this one instructor who introduced two foot turns in class 5 of 8. Is this how it is at all skating clubs - adults will be explicitly told what level they will/will not be moved to? I read one skating club said they don't do "test days", they just move people "as they progress". So I feel like we've just been getting "informally" tested this whole time every time the instructor went through her clipboard. I've never taken adult skating lessons before so I don't know how it works - I've been reading up on the CanSkate levels/curriculum and have gotten one ribbon. On the first day, they told a bunch of us to skate forward and backward then put us in groups. 🤷‍♀️

I'm just anxious that staying at this level means paying for another 8 weeks of doing the same things. I of course appreciate the importance of doing those things repeatedly for a good foundation. When I'm seen as "level 1 again" on paper, I worry I'll be "gatekept" from learning new things. I'm motivated to practice my two foot turns but I do want to to learn non-level 1 stuff too 😞
