Update since a couple people have been asking

Here’s my original post from 3 years ago.

I don’t regret my surgery, but I’ve experienced more issues after it.

Shortly after my surgery I started getting a ton of diarrhea randomly, and I got diagnosed with Celiac Disease. To get this confirmed, I had to under go the dreaded “Gluten Challenge”, and it put an immense amount of stress on my body. After I got my biopsy confirmation diagnosis, I started having severe nausea and vomiting after eating. I would throw up food from 10+ hours ago.

I was diagnosed with gastroparesis in July 2025. My stomach motility rapidly decreased, and in March 2026 I got a feeding tube placed. I’ve been on the waitlist to get into a motility clinic for almost a year. I’ve started having issues with small intestine motility, and now I’m going to get evaluated for CIPO in May 2026.

I don’t regret my colectomy at all. I genuinely think that I probably would have died if I didn’t get it done. That being said, I do believe that the stress of the colectomy on my body triggered my Celiac Disease to develop, then the stress of the Gluten Challenge and endoscopy on my body caused the gastroparesis to develop/worsen, cause a cascade of medical issues, and now my small intestine is crapping (haha) out.

There are consequences for everything you do. Nobody could have seen this coming with me, and whatever is wrong with me seems to be very rare. I don’t blame anybody for not realizing or warning me about this kind of stuff. It was either get my colon removed or probably die an Elvis Presley death before 30, heart attack on the toilet because I was so full of shit.
