Am I reading into a friendship or does this sound like something more? (20M) (21F)
I’ve (20M) got a close girl friend (21F) and I’m genuinely confused about whether I’m reading into things or whether this is one of those situations where feelings slowly developed.
We’ve known each other for over a year. At the end of first year we were friends but not super close. This year (especially term 2 onwards) we’ve gotten much closer. We started hanging out one-on-one a lot: walks, groceries, food, coffee, gym, random shopping, etc. We text a lot too (long messages, frequently), even though both of us usually say we’re bad texters.
Recently we went on trips with friends (Paris and Portugal). In Portugal, due to some circumstances, we ended up staying in a hotel together (separate rooms in a suite). We basically spent most of the trip together: breakfast, gym, beach, dinner, walks, movies, talking, etc. It honestly felt very natural and I realised I could spend a huge amount of time with her without getting socially drained, which is unusual for me.
After a club night recently we both got with different people in the club, but later I sent her home and in the Uber we ended up holding hands with interlocked fingers for the entire ride while leaning towards each other and talking. Neither of us has mentioned it since.
Now here’s where I’m confused:
We still don’t really have physical touch normally (barely even hug)
Sober, everything still feels normal
But the dynamic feels different lately and I can’t pinpoint why
Eye contact feels more frequent/longer recently
I catch myself wanting to spend more time with her even after hanging out for hours
I realised I’d actually be disappointed if nothing ever changed
I think I genuinely like her now, which I was probably denying before
The problem is I really value the friendship and I genuinely don’t want to make her uncomfortable or ruin things. I also don’t know if I’m just noticing everything more because I realised I like her.
Am I reading into a very close friendship? Or does this sound like one of those situations where something may be slowly shifting?
