Bezel alignment on the new Hydroconquest
I love my new HydroConquest. The build quality is superb, and after 14 days, it is running at a total gain of just 8 seconds—which is incredible. However, one thing bothers me greatly: whenever I look at the watch, my gaze invariably lands on the bezel, which isn't perfectly aligned. The deviation is truly minimal and cannot be corrected by simply shifting the bezel (i.e., it isn't due to "bezel play"). I visited two authorized Longines dealers to have it checked. The watchmaker at one dealership couldn't even spot the problem despite examining the watch closely. Both assured me that the alignment falls well within Longines' manufacturing tolerances. What puzzles me greatly, however, is why this minute misalignment of the bezel stands out so glaringly to me. On my BB58, the bezel isn't positioned 100% perfectly either—almost exactly like on the HC. With the BB58, my eyes never settle on the bezel triangle and how it aligns with the dial. With the HC, it’s a different story. To my eyes, the misalignment looks much more pronounced than it does in photos. Has anyone else had a similar experience? I haven't come across any discussions about this so far. Could this perhaps be due to the HC's sapphire crystal, which might accentuate the slight misalignment when viewing the watch from an angle?
