I have a Eurasian collared dove that I raised. I took her in after her nest, in a dog park at my job, was attacked by another bird, her and another fell. The sibling was injured and did not live long, but she survived and is thriving. Once she started flying she wouldn’t let me near her almost like she was scared. She’s definitely warmed up to us and even lands on or near me. However, I am still not able to touch her. What would be the best way to at least desensitize her for emergencies?
Currently she has 24/7 free access to certain rooms in my apartment as I cannot get her back into the cage when I have to leave and at night. She has no problem going in and out on her own and seems to like her cage, however when I tried to close her in she freaked out. Is it terribly unsafe to have her free roaming unsupervised and are there any ways I can make it safer?
