Between Achilles's shield from Homer's Iliad, Heracles's shield from Hesiod's Shield of Heracles, Aeneas's shield from Virgil's Aeneid and Theseus's shield from Statius's Thebaid. What does each of their shields supposed to represent in their imagery, and does each of their shield's mirror each other's respectfully?
In Argonautica Book 3 says that Aeetes, son of Helios, armed with his spear and shield surpasses all of the Argonauts save only Heracles. Was Heracles really the only one capable of standing against Aeetes in battle? Could any other Argonauts stand against him? If Theseus, Pirithous or Atalanta joined the Argo in this account, could they stand against him? What are your opinions?
Before the Athenians chose Theseus as their national hero, do you think he was the hero of somewhere instead of Athens?
