So tired of being a woman in the workplace
I am just so incredibly exhausted.
I am constantly tired of having to deal with male customers—especially older ones, as a younger woman—constantly hitting on me. It is draining to always have to smile, stay professional, and ignore their behavior just to keep my job and avoid making a scene.
A couple of weeks ago, a guy hit on me while I was actively working. I did my usual routine: ignored the advance and tried to stay professional. Because I didn’t give him the reaction he wanted, this man literally came back into my workplace, snatched a business card from my stand, and reported me to my manager. On top of trying to get me in trouble with my boss, he left a nasty, fabricated review about me on our company’s google review page. Of course, he conveniently left out the part where he was hitting on me, so to anyone reading it, it just looks like I’m terrible at my job and bad for the business.
Thankfully, I work with an all-woman team. My manager immediately stood up for me, knew exactly what he was doing, and completely have my back.
But I am still so angry and shaken up. It is ridiculous that my name is being slandered publicly just because I refused to play along with a stranger's advances. I am so tired of the fact that simply showing up to work as a young woman means risking a fragile man trying to ruin my reputation and my livelihood.
TL;DR: Tired of constantly dealing with older male customers hitting on me while I'm forced to stay professional. I ignored a guy's advances, so he retaliated by stealing my business card, reporting me to my manager, and leaving a fake Google review. Thankfully my all-woman team has my back, but I’m just so exhausted.
