My company “restructured” my compensation, so I found another job. Now they want to match.

As described, my company restructured my compensation from an 80:20 split to 90:10, taking us off our bonus plan and moving us to company MBO. my colleagues and I did the math and we’d be actually making less than we made before. We begged them to revert this for well over a month, and were ignored.

One colleague, who is also a woman, went out and started interviewing as a result. So did I. We both landed new gigs for way more money.

When she gave her notice, the narrative the company told everyone was that she outgrew it. She didn’t care to have them match as she felt disrespected enough, so she left.

I presented my notice a week later and now they want to match. Tell me, how can you mess with my compensation structure in a negative way, and then suddenly be able to match at an almost impossible number? It’s only now that they’d be down to one engineer that they suddenly care.

I told them to draft me a counteroffer for funsies even though I’m already out the door.

TLDR: Please always do what’s best for you because these companies will try to cheapen your worth.

Here’s on to better things hopefully. Happy Saturday, ladies.
