100 Years Of Marilyn Monroe!
In celebration of Marilyn Monroe's 100th birthday and in spirit of the new Barbie Signature Marilyn Monroe Centennial Celebration doll, I wanted to showcase a small project that more accurately represents Marilyn Monroe and the iconic William Travilla pink dress she wore during her "Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend" musical number in the 1953 film, Gentleman Prefer Blondes.
I simply paired Mattel's 2001 How To Marry A Millionaire Marilyn Barbie, which is sculpted in Marilyn's likeness, with the pink dress from Mattel's 1997 Gentlemen Prefer Blondes Marilyn doll, which is far more accurate to Travilla's design than the 2026 reinterpretation. I dyed the dress a darker pink, which was the cherry on top to this little project, and I am IN LOVE with how it turned out. Happy 100th Birthday, Marilyn Monroe!
