WFH with toddlers vs school age kids

Just curious, has anyone worked from home with toddlers under the age of 4 versus school aged kids 5 to 8 years old?

How did you find the difference in managing your stress and workload?

Did you find the older kid was more demanding and stressful or did you find with the toddler You couldn’t fully concentrate because the toddler kept climbing and trying to hurt itself?

I’ve got 15 months until one child goes to full-time education and then over three years for my youngest so I’ve still got awhile but just wondering how it might be and if it’s worth holding on to this job just a little bit longer if it’s meant to get a bit easier

Parents: is it better to work and earn as much money as possible or take some time to stay at home with your kids while you can?

We were told time and time again to focus on your career build up money and seniority so that you’ll have a good income and a good amount of savings to make parenting life easier and more secure

Most of the people I grew up with waited until they were closer to 30 before having children or later to build up their career.

But a lot of them people are actually still struggling.
- being made redundant
- Still living with parents trying to build up a deposit
- those with mortgages are having to move back with parents because of the increasing rates
- feeling drained body struggling and feel like if they had children 5 to 10 years earlier, their body wouldn’t be in much pain
- poor job market and one hasn’t had a job in over a year
- part time jobs for parents near non-existent so either no job or full time

One friend of mine has chosen to move back in with family and not Work likely ever again (child care then looking after parents as they age). She’s not overly worried about the financial implications because she would rather focus on spending as much time with her family as she can

Other friend the opposite. Super money focused. One day a week spent with child as well as just the bedtime routine. BUT they have been on like 3-4 weeks of holidays / days out this year so far…

Question: Money or family time in this generation?

UK 🇬🇧 But keen to hear other places opinion too

Did you grow up with a stay at home parent? Did you enjoy it? And did you do the same with your children? (UK/US/other)

I’ve heard of a fairly even split on this topic talking to millennial’s.
50% think everything should be even with their partner but lose time with kids and others think men should provide so they can bring up their children but do they end up with no pension in exchange?
