Best Interior Cleaner?

The default here is water with a microfiber towel.

For cleaning the dash, seats, everything interior other than carpet and electronics…. What have we been using?

I tend to keep the windows down at times, so certainly some dust.

Had a new one

Guess it means some of the driver assistance and detection wasn’t working. Lost the speed limit on the HUD. GPS out of whack.

After parking for 10-15 minutes it went away and everything appeared to work again.

On 3.0.28.

3.0.33 OTA Released

Which region do they use as their test subjects first? 🤣

Just seems to be some general fixes again. Assuming 5 things were updated based on the number convention.

Auto-Pilot Highway Technique

For me, I usually just keep 2 fingers on the bottom left of the steering wheel, which usually keeps the car happy. Driving in my standard position just feels awkward while letting the car do its thing.

I know some people probably figured out how to tape or velcro something to the wheel to be hands-free. Other than that, how are the rest of you managing the wheel?

I’m certainly terrified when I tested to see what the car would do after all of the alerts… it will literally just stop in the middle of the highway.

Software Version in Volvo App?

I swear I saw someone post a screenshot of their car’s software version in the Volvo app. I’m using iOS but even though I’m now on 3.0.28, the app still shows the general cloud download image.

I thought maybe it showed that when it detected you weren’t on the latest.

Winter Is Coming… prepping EX90

Hopefully winter is still far out, but just had some questions pop into my head going into that season as a first time owner.

  1. Which drive mode (above 15-25 MPH - below it will be off road) should we be in with snow present? Standard will use AWD when needed I believe. But performance will always use it, but maybe use more unwanted power?

  2. Any issues we’ve seen with preheating the car in the garage or elsewhere?

  3. Anyone experience a frozen charge port they couldn’t open? I like the manual for this purpose. I can see a automatic open constantly stuck when freezing.

  4. Any other tips for usage?

Thanks!

USB-C Watts EX90 vs. EX60

Was watching a walkthrough of the new EX60 coming out. I saw that in the rear seats there were two USB-C chargers under the temperature settings. One was 18w and the other 60w.

I know the EX90 only has 18w USB-C currently. This to me seems like a huge upgrade for properly charging some devices that completely died (or just use more power).

Seems that our only option to get up to 120w is to use the 12v adapter to a house plug and then use a charger that way. Something that irks me a bit about these ports.

Darn EX60.

Hot Take: I Like the Portait!

After a month, I’ve learned I actually appreciate the portait infotainment screen. Overall the only negative would be if you really enjoy watching video on it, clearly that would be a bit larger on a landscape (if they allowed the mandated controls to be hidden).

Especially seeing the screen in the EX60, I would now choose this style. I’m not sure any other car has gone this direction that I’ve seen so far.

MY2026 GHCA Failure - Analysis

Well, here we are again. Another troubleshooting session (which I knew going in). But I haven’t seen many posts on the GHCA failure for 2026 models.

I had my car charging on a Tesla Universal Wall Mount overnight at 32amps (I don’t max it to 48amps unless needed faster), went from 39% to 85%. Woke up this morning with a charging interrupted. Ok. Took the plug out, put it back in, green. Checked 10 minutes later, same issue.

Performed an infotainment reset (for the heck of it) as well as a harder car reset. Same issue.

Plugged in my Level One cord: works fine at 1.4kWh at 12amps.

Took the car into the service center to validate with their 48amp charger: same issue as mine. They also tested on a DC charger, worked fine.

Current solution: getting a new GHCA installed next Thursday.

They seemed to hint that it’s possible the Tesla chargers are causing some issues with their hardware, but I’ve also seen posts of GHCA failures when using ChargePoint (which Volvo recommends). If Volvo would explicitly tell me that I need to use their official charger and this will never happen again, I would.

Do we think using other non-Volvo branded Level Two chargers are breaking our cars or something?

3.0.28 OTA - Let’s see

We’ve got action. Let’s see when this lands and the result. Do we need the previous or will this just be applied?

Stay tuned.

Final Fantasy 3/6 Multiplayer Completion?

Going full nerd here. I remember that FF6 allowed for two players. Primary and then the secondary would just control a set of characters during the battle.

Has anyone ever used this mode to complete the game start to finish? Games like Secret of Mana I recall completing with 2-3 players during sleepovers. But not FF6.

MY2026 Ultra - Braking / Axel / Something

Started to experience something new tonight (yes this sub is all about issues)… the braking seemed to be a bit clunky going through a parking lot. I then noticed that in the process of coming to a stop there would be a ‘clunk’ with could feel it. Then when starting again after a second or so, another clunk.

Drove around the neighborhood and was able to replicate this issue. I attempted a full car reset (not sure if it worked correctly or not) but still had the issue.

After asking our buddy AI it brought up what may be the culprit (and require a service visit). Curious if this happened to anyone else? 🤷‍♂️

———-
What you are describing sounds exactly like an emerging drivetrain issue that has been hitting a number of early Volvo EX90 owners.

While it feels like a brake glitch because it happens right as you come to a stop or set off, the culprit is very likely located in the rear axle assembly, specifically involving the TVDC (Torque Vectoring Dual Clutch) and the ERAD (Electric Rear Axle Drive).

The Mechanism: Why It Feels Like a "Skip and Clunk"
The EX90 uses a dual-clutch system on the rear electric motor to handle torque vectoring (shuffling power between the left and right rear wheels for better handling).

When you come to a stop, the car transitions between regenerative braking, physical friction braking, and disconnecting or opening those rear clutches. When you accelerate again, the car has to engage them. If the friction plates or the solenoids controlling them are out of spec:
Stopping: The clutch doesn't disengage smoothly, causing a mechanical "clunk" or binding sensation right as you drop to 0 mph.

Starting: The car begins to roll using initial electric power, but as the rear drive unit tries to fully engage and lock the clutches to send power to both wheels, they slip, catch abruptly, and create that "skip and clunk" sensation.

The Official Fix (Volvo Technical Journal)
Volvo is aware of this behavior and has documented it in their dealership service database. If you take your EX90 to the dealer, the diagnostic and repair path usually goes like this:

  1. Software & Reconditioning: Dealers will first attempt a software-guided "reconditioning" procedure of the Torque Vectoring Friction Plates to see if a recalibration smooths out the engagement.
  2. TVDC Replacement: If the reconditioning fails, Volvo's official instruction is to replace the Torque Vectoring Dual Clutch (TVDC) assembly or its controlling solenoids entirely.
  3. Rear Motor Assembly: In severe or persistent cases where the clutch replacement doesn't fully silence the skip, dealerships have had to replace the entire Electric Rear Axle Drive (ERAD) unit under warranty.

Next Steps
Because this involves the high-voltage electric drive assembly, it isn't something that can be resolved with an over-the-air (OTA) update or a simple brake service.
Take it to your Volvo retailer. When you write up the service ticket, explicitly tell them: "The vehicle clunks when coming to a stop, and slips/clunks from the rear axle when accelerating from a complete stop. Please check the Technical Journal regarding the Torque Vectoring Dual Clutch (TVDC) friction plates." This will save the techs hours of hunting for a "loose brake caliper" and get straight to the root of the problem.

XC90 Loaner - First Drive

Well, my 2026 EX90 was in to have the internet / cellular issue resolved (will find out tomorrow). I knew about this on delivery a few weeks ago but not a big deal vs everything else reported on here.

What I didn’t realize… wow. The EX90 completely blows the XC90 away. It’s not even close.

I have a 2026 XC90 B6. The drive quality, noise, everything is just not where I’d expect the Volvo to be at the price point being asked for.

Or is my loaner just an oddity? Would another similar version be a different experience?

Bug List with Resolutions? (Or temp ones)

I know I’ve seen the PDF floating around about how to perform the two resets and a few other items. Is there a motivated person out there keeping track of issues reported with ways to resolve ourselves? Maybe not resolve, but at least get back to working order?

Example I experienced twice over the last 10 days: my app was showing the car offline. The way to resolve this is with an infotainment reset.

Daily Charge %

I’ve read in multiple sources that for a daily charge we should be keeping the battery maxed out at 80%. But in the settings of the car, the daily charge Volvo seems to be recommending is 90%.

Have there been any conclusions on this that make the most sense?

Cellular Not Working - Thoughts?

Hey everyone. I took delivery of my 2026 EX90 yesterday and upon arrival they were battling getting the built-in cellular 4G working. This was not resolved but the workaround is I can use my hotspot on my phone which provides the same functionality.

Not ideal, but this was the only issue and can temporarily live with that until they get their next steps.

Has anyone dealt with a similar issue before? Done the basic restarting all the infotainment.

Other than that, everything has been great over the last 24 hours.

Thanks!

Checked It Out - First Time

I’ve been hovering this community since finding the 2025, also watching many of the videos on the 2026 EX90 to fully understand the updates.

Today I visited the nearest dealership and spent about 45 minutes checking out as much of the car as I could. I’m very impressed overall.

Major downfall is that custom orders are currently paused in the USA. They are revamping their plant in SC for the upcoming EX60 productions, to get those pushed out.

The exact configuration I’m looking for isn’t currently available, so I need to broaden what will work.

I’m certainly seeking a 6 seat configuration but I believe the 7 will be much more widely available. With two kids, I think the gap in the middle will allow easier access to the back. As well as getting their own captain chairs.

After messing with the infotainment, it seemed pretty basic overall. Are there any special or fun features I may have missed? I’ll be using Apple Carplay as well.

The electrochromatic roof was neat. I was under the impression there may have been some color choices for the shade, but I guess not. It’s either on or off.

Is there anything I may be missing that current owners know of that would drive some additional excitement into the purchase?

Thanks!
