Advice about ROM hacks, gave up on Last Promise on Chapter 26
So, I've been aware of the rom hacking community for years, and I recently decided to finally take the plunge. I got impulsive and downloaded all the hacks listed below while doing the bare minimum amount of research. I arbitrarily decided to try "The Last Promise" first as it was one of the oldest and most influential.
I had fun at first, but as time went on... I found that my eyes were glazing over during cutscenes, and that when I got to the final quarter of the game, the difficulty curve went up an 75 degree angle and all my units that were absolutely annihilating enemies were suddenly barely landing hits and getting annihilated, forcing me to rewind.... CONSTANTLY. I was 5 turns into chapter 26 when I decided that the game had stopped being fun, it had turned into a war of attrition, and I was just trying to complete it for completions sake. I looked it up, I had that chapter, chapter 27, which is apparently EVEN MORE BS and the finale. At this point, it wasn't worth it.
With that experience in mind, which of these do you think I should prune from my backlog? Based on the State of Play and the Summer Games presentation, this is a great year to try to finish with a legitimately smaller backlog than I started the year with.
