Tech pleked my Ibanez Prestige to 14 inches advice please
I took my Ibanez prestige and Carvin/Kiesel JB bass into the only shop that had a plek machine in the Portland, OR area and told them if they think the plek would improve the action then to go ahead.
When I got it back I noticed alot of buzz around D and G. I took it back and and the tech couldnt figure it out. I asked what they plekd it to and he told me 14". I said its supposed to be a 17 inch radius. He told me that they see ibanez all the time with 14 inch radius and that he could change it from 8's to 9's because ibanez like 9's and so i agreed again. Still feels like shit.
After a whole 2 seconds of research i told them the saddle is fixed and you cannot change this since the saddle is fixed to 17".
The managing tech is now saying the scans showed 14.2-14.7 so they reduced the radius to 14. And the saddle is measuring 19.7 inches.
So as a fix they want to shim the saddles to 14".
I think its more likely based off of how much material is missing that they used the incorrect 14 inch radius of my Kiesel/Carvin jazz bass on my Ibanez.
Can someone look at these before and after and tell me if its totally f'd they took a ton of material off the sides and heel especially. Looks like a lot more than the small amount they are stating. It looks like nice even tall frets in the before pic and now its totally rounded and almost shaved off at the heel.
Edit-- I added some photos with radius guages to some of the comments of the fretboard/fingerboard at the 12th fret and it looks like its supposed to be 17".
