In a mood about Mood

I'm an electronic/ambient musician. I play synths and guitar. Last year I decided to purchase the Chase Bliss Mood mk II pedal after seeing some great videos online. 6 months later and I'm wondering about my purchase. It sits on my desk and I have it connected to my audio interface - right & left return going into Focusrite inputs and right and left sends coming out of the outputs - so I can run the pedal whenever I want (with synths or guitar) and be able to record it easily enough.

I'm finding that it's not always easy to record - I use Logic's I/O plugin to add Mood to the track and for some reason I don't seem to get the full effects of it compared to when I'm not recording and just playing with it. It's never an easy process and as such it's putting me off using it. I have tried unplugging from this chain and plugging directly into my guitar and it does sound better but the whole point of connecting it to the audio interface is so I can use it on soft synths and record with it.

I'm wondering if it's the right pedal for me (I had considered Microcosm too). I want the pedal to add movement and interesting artefacts to whichever signal I put through it. Or maybe the way I have it set up is just not an ideal way to use pedals. I'd appreciate any thoughts on this. Thanks
