Assault bike - cheap FB marketplace buy repaired.

I’ve been in the market for an assault bike for a while to compliment my C2 Bike erg. Found this one cheap on FB marketplace with a broken screen and clunky pedals and handles. Took a chance on it, picked it up, somehow managed to fit it into the back of my landrover and got it home.

Checked out the clunk first and there were loads of loose bolts so I thought I’d get it working in 5 mins or less. This helped the wobbly arms but didn’t fix the clunk properly. I noticed the link between crank shaft and the fan belt (pictured) seemed to be the cause. I took it apart and noticed the thread was stripped in the lower half of both sides. I had a few options here, buy a new one, drill and tap to a bigger size or put longer bolt through and a nut on the end. I emailed primal for spares but haven’t heard back, drilling and tapping might not leave enough material to torque it up properly so I opted for the simplest solution which was a longer bolt and nut on the end. Then a gave all the other nuts and bolts a good clean, lubricated all the moving parts and it’s running perfectly. Completely smooth through full rotation at high and low effort. Easy win!

Next was the screen. I’ve found replacement screens online as cheap as £40 and as much as £140 but thought I’d take a punt at getting it going myself. I opened it up and the battery connection terminals were completely corroded and the cables connecting them to the circuit board had broken loose. I ordered a new battery terminal box that I bolted onto the back of the screen, soldered it in and it worked!

All in, I paid £120 for the bike itself, £4 for the battery box and I had the nuts and bolts lying around already so I’m pretty pleased with the outcome. Just in time for the next heatwave! lol

GOATed albums for a 12 hour drive

Hello metalheads! I’m really into broadening my horizons musically lately. I’m looking for your personal favourite metal albums to help me through a 12 hour cross country drive from the north coast of Scotland to the south coast of England.

The elitist among you would probably sneer at my favourites, but I’m pretty open to suggestions across and exceeding the genre, ive mostly gravitated towards prog, 80s heavy metal and metalcore, but never really found myself into black metal, but I’m open to it.

A selection of 5 of my favourites

Architects - hollow crown
Porcupine tree - in absentia
Monuments - Amanuensis
Alice in chains - Dirt
Audioslave - audioslave

Edit:

You guys are absolute legends for all the brilliant suggestions! I’ve got a solid 12+ hours of material for my trip and a list as long as my arm of albums to listen to in the future as well. There was also no judgement, criticism or negativity which feels like a rarity on Reddit sometimes but maybe that’s just metalheads being the best people.

If anyone wants the playlist, let me know. It’s not everything suggested, but a selection from most comments of the albums I haven’t listened to before.

Earth fault or fine?

Alright team. Im an EC&I engineer and not a domestic sparky so I’m hoping to get my thoughts idiot checked

Have a gas engineer round and he’s changing out the pump on my boiler. He isolated it at the wall switch and then tripped my RCBO by accidentally touching the earth and neutral together. He’s told me I’ll need an electrician round as there’s an earth fault.

My thoughts are that the switch only isolates the line conductor so touching earth and neutral together would create an unbalanced load which is sensed by the RCBO and causes a trip?

Told him this but he’s insistent that I need an electrician round. He’s seemingly unaware that I have any other electrical knowledge but I’m also aware that this isn’t my area of electrical engineering (nor his lol)

Happy to be told I’m wrong here, just want to check before I go forking out for a spark

Changing child’s surname and adding myself to birth certificate.

Hello, a little bit of a messy circumstance that I’m hoping for some guidance on as I’m struggling to get my head around it. Based in England.

I have a 4 year old son, I was not told about the pregnancy or birth and subsequently not added to the birth certificate.

Upon finding out about him and confirming with a paternity test, I’ve been heavily and regularly involved in his life and have assumed co-parental responsibility, contribute financially etc.

He has someone else’s surname.

I would like to have his surname changed to my surname and to be added to the birth certificate so that I have some formal Acknowledgement
of paternity incase of any snags down the line. His mother has agreed to this.

Do I have to change his name via deed poll and re register the birth separately? Or can I re-register the birth, add myself and change the surname at the same time?

Thanks so much for any guidance.

Is AM2 required ?

Hoping for a bit of advice from someone in the know

I’ve got my level 3 which was completed as part of my apprenticeship and culminated in an end point assessment before I was given the certificate. I’ve also got 18th edition, 2391, 2392 & 2393.

I was of the opinion that I was fully qualified, I’ve been working predominantly doing EC&I and progressing through my career, but a colleague pointed out that if I haven’t done AM2, I’m not fully qualified and I should get it booked.

I don’t really take on any domestic work outside of minor works / non notifiable for my own home or for family and friends.

Any advice would be appreciated. It’s obviously not holding me back but I’d like to be fully qualified, however don’t wanna waste the money and two days of my life if I don’t need to.
