I recently got two historic pennants from the 1983 YL opening to Huntington and thought I’d share my small collection of commemorative Metro pennants! I’ve got the two SV Line pennants, Potomac Yard, and this year’s 50th pennant, all openings/events I attended. Anyone have any others?

On this day, 9 years ago in 2017... All 1000-Series and 4000-Series railcars were retired from passenger service, following 41 and 26 years of service respectively.

Put together a checklist of the Metro 50 trading cards, based on what I've seen people receive. What cards have you gotten? Do you have any that aren't on this list?

In celebration of Metro’s 50th Anniversary and America’s 250th, Metro today announced its participation at the Great American State Fair with an exhibition titled “America’s Metro System.” The exhibition is a nod to Metro’s past and present, featuring Metro’s very first 1000-series railcar refurbished to its 1976-era glory and a new 8000-series railcar, the newest addition to the fleet. The exhibit will be open until July 10th.

America 250th Wraps & Cards will also debut June 25th. Smart Trip cards will be available at seven stations: Metro Center
L’Enfant Plaza
Navy Yard
Smithsonian
Union Station
Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport
Washington Dulles International Airport

Here’s an original “Metro Owner’s Manual” which was a promotional insert in the Washington Star from March 1976, compared to the 2026 50th Anniversary Edition! The 1976 future map is pretty close, minus the Silver Line, which was not part of the original 101-mile system plan.
