Some old photos from my years in Florida
Seeing everyone mention Florida today suddenly brought back memories of the friends I met there many years ago and all the happy times we spent together.
We often walked along the river and visited our neighbors one by one, tasting their homemade garlic bread, Cuban croquettes, Ropa vieja, and other local food.
We learned how to fly, how to fish, and how to grow things. Very early in the morning, we would go to the school to watch the female soldiers doing their drills. We would fish along the lush riverbanks in the golden light, and after the sun went down, we would take the boat out on the river, even when it was so cold that we could barely feel our hands.
Once it got dark, everything was almost completely black, and all that remained were the little scattered lights from the many lakes ✨
The older gentleman in the photos was in the U.S. Air Force when he was young and was stationed in Korea. He married a Korean woman there, and after he retired, they moved back to Florida together.
We often went to their house to spend time together. He taught us how to fish and how to operate the boat. We spent wonderful Thanksgivings and Christmases together.
Looking back at these old photos today, I suddenly remembered all those happy days in Florida.
