Ron DeSantis has ‘no idea’ what security he’ll need after leaving office, won’t take position on state paying for it: The Senate wants the state to cover costs for a year after DeSantis is termed out.
Snippet:
- Gov. Ron DeSantis says he isn’t sure what kind of security will be necessary to keep him and his family safe after leaving office as the Legislature weighs setting aside funds to pay for it.
- A recent Senate budget offer would put state funds toward that unprecedented effort.
- Per the offer, “the Department of Law Enforcement shall continue to provide and maintain the security of the individual currently serving as Governor and such individual’s immediate family for a period of twelve months following the expiration of the Governor’s term.”
- DeSantis explained security concerns while speaking in Miami.
- “In terms of my security, I’ve let the Florida Department of Law Enforcement handle that. They make assessments on all these things. I tend not to think about it because, you know, I don’t think it really helps you to think about it,” DeSantis said.

actionnewsjax.comLove bugs in the radiator.
Drove from N. Brevard county to Orlando and back yesterday. Found a few more Love Bugs than I’ve seen in the past few years. When I got home I spent around two hours washing them of the front of my car, the hood, side mirrors, and the grill. One thing remains - the slimy little buggers that made it thru the grill and are now stuck in the radiator. Anybody have any tips on how to get ‘em out of the radiator short of removing body panels? Ain’t gonna do that!
Trying to find union work in Tampa, FL — does anyone have a phone number to call, a local hall to check out, or a website where I can get started and apply?
Hey everyone, I've been trying to figure out how to get into union work here in Tampa and honestly don't know where to start. I'm not sure if I should be calling someone, walking into a hall, or filling something out online.
If you've done this before in the Tampa area, could you share a phone number, a website, or just point me in the right direction? I don't care what trade it is — I just want to find something solid with good pay and benefits. Any info helps, even if it's just a name or a place to check out. Thanks.
What do we call this big cat?
I don’t live in Florida anymore but grew up and spent 25-26 out of my 30 years in Tampa. I took a dialect quiz with my girlfriend and we got onto the subject of what this cat is and why I call it what I call it.
I’m just curious as to what other Floridians call it and if what I call it came from somewhere else like a movie, tv show or book.
Edit: no idea why the spoiler text won’t work
Edit 2: I guess she was right. I guess I’m the odd man out. Next you’re gonna tell me they’re not called frontage roads either

wesh.companhandling/living with child in car???
first I want to clarify that I understand people are going through things and some will do anything to get money for their family. BUT everyday I see this same vehicle (small black cube car) that’s filled to the brim with stuff (from the back it looks like that). Usually they stay until late night hours, but a two or three weeks ago I realized they have a little boy in car. He looks no more than 5-6. it really breaks my heart, but is there anything “illegal” with this situation. it really doesn’t sit well with me and i’ve been debating on contacting cps. (idk if that’s too far)
EDIT: so i’ve taken the advice and did my research. i’m definitely not contacting cps, because like some of you said, it’s horrible and will make the situation worse (which I didn’t realize at first but then did my research) BUT I am going to contacting local shelters and will ask if they need resources when I see them. I give them money a lot of them time. thank you for all the people who commented helpful things instead of bashing me.
Polk County Utilities
Hey everybody! New here. But does anyone have their utilities under Polk county utilities? Like winter haven area and such? Does anyone know that if you’re late on your water bill how long they give you before disconnection? I don’t know if this is the right subreddit to ask but figured I’d shoot my shot to see if anyone knew. Thank you so much.

wesh.comOrlando Business Partnership Dispute / Breach of Contract – Need Legal & Business Advice
I’m currently involved in a serious business partnership dispute tied to a towing and recovery operation in Florida. Multiple individuals were involved through verbal agreements, operational responsibilities, business development, and promises regarding ownership, equity, and future participation in the company.
Over time, communication broke down, transparency disappeared, decisions started being made privately, and certain parties allegedly excluded others while continuing to benefit from prior contributions and work already invested into the business.
The situation is now heading toward Orlando Business Court involving possible breach of contract, partnership disputes, unjust enrichment, and related commercial litigation issues.
One of my biggest concerns is finding independent legal representation. It seems like many attorneys I’ve contacted may already have relationships, conflicts, or connections with individuals involved in the matter.
I’m looking for advice from anyone experienced with:
- Florida partnership disputes
- Business litigation attorneys that work on contingency or hybrid contingency
- Preserving evidence and documentation
- Verbal agreements combined with operational/business contributions
- Business court strategy and what to avoid doing early on
Trying to stay confidential with names and details publicly until necessary, but I would appreciate any serious legal or business guidance from people who have dealt with similar situations.

The rise and fall of an AI-driven ‘local news outlet’ in South Florida: Sham news sites are increasingly common in Florida and across the country, a dangerous development for American democracy
>Delgado and other “local journalists” identified as staff of the South Florida Standard are creations of artificial intelligence – complete with fake headshots and made-up biographies
Snippet:
- South Florida journalist Sofia Delgado was having a great year.
- Reporters at the news outlet she helped launch a few months ago, the South Florida Standard, had been regularly publishing three stories a day, every day of the week – including weekends – with articles ranging from a story detailing the Florida Legislature’s budget breakdown, to federal health care workers quitting rather than taking mandatory assignments at Guantanamo Bay, to revelations that deaths at state mental hospitals were linked to systemic neglect.
- Born and raised in Hialeah, the bilingual editor-in-chief and mother of two, and her team even published four stories on Easter Sunday.
- It would be an impressive – and gruelling – output for many local news outlets in this era of shrinking newsroom budgets.
- If it were real.
