Chase scene obstacles list/roll table.
Hello fellow GM's. Currently running a campaign and planning a chase scene scenario. I'm using the rule of having two count dials with one assigned to the pursuer and the pursued.
I'll allow the players to attempt to slow down the pursuers, and they'll also encounter some obstacles that may slow them down.
And while I love improvising, making roll tables is also fun and handy. I checked the subreddit to see if this subreddit had a go at it and I couldn't find any. So thought I'd start one myself.
(I know this has been done for other systems and I could easily use them, but I'm still gonna make one here )
The idea is for the table to be used in towns/cities
As responses come in I'll make a numbered lists for rolling "for those who come after."
I'll contribute a d10's worth to start
1. The classic stand of goods. Goods can change based on the environment, You can use group rolls to maneuver around it, use it to slow down pursuers, or individual rolls that can make cascading events, like the first person knocking it down making the second person having to dodge flying merchandise, and so on and so forth.
2. Cart of workers being transported. Chasers can ask for help, pursuers can do the same. Good for charismatic sort of characters to try something out.
3. A bridge/road is clogged. Could be a chance for a big gain or escape! maneuver around, or over the crowd. Perhaps even hide in the crowd (could be a big risk though!)
4. An open window into a building with an open door on the other side (the window could have stuff on it too, a potted plant, cooling food, someone looking outside it?)
5. Construction site, people around with carriages full of supplies, animals pulling on carriages, multiple people carrying larger parts across a street, etc.
6. Perhaps an animal of some sort is misbehaving? A pet wolf/dog barks/chases/bites at pursued or pursuers. Sets up being good with animals having a chance to use said skills.
7. Something falling out a window? A bit cartoonish but still possible. Could be human waste from a bucket like the good ol' days.
8. Weather starts to pick up, rain makes it harder to find footing, If your doing limited rolls, this is sort of a freebie, but makes future rolls harder on athletics. If it's raining and you roll this, stop the rain maybe?
9. A tree in a road is being cut down for whatever reason. You can use it falling as a roll to dodge it, allow the party to speed it up/slow it down. Druids can perhaps use magic on it as well!
10. The players catch sight of an alley that has a good amount of exits, good amount of possibilities for illusion magic, and honestly just any magic.
