Jason and Lucia have their own routines in GTA 6. If NPCs do too, how far could this go?

I recently posted about Jason and Lucia having their own routines, but what about random NPCs? Previews have already shown NPCs committing crimes on their own, reacting differently and doing random shit that even surprised Rockstar. These exact situations probably won’t happen, but with that much NPC detail, who knows. Just theorizing.

Not just watching somebody go to work and come home, but overhearing a conversation and realizing they’re actually about to go do whatever they’re talking about.

Say you’re outside a bar and hear some dude tell his girl he’s heading home. He hangs up, calls somebody else and says he’ll be there in ten minutes. I’m following his ass 😂 Maybe he drives across town to some shitty motel and meets another woman. You could leave, take a picture, confront him or just watch this dude completely fuck up his relationship.

Same with smaller shit. Somebody calls their boss saying they’re sick while they’re getting hammered at the beach. A woman tells her husband she’s working late and you later see her at a club. You overhear some rich dude at a beach bar bragging about taking his dad’s yacht out later. Follow him and there’s actually a whole party offshore with girls jumping off the boat, people getting fucked up and doing stupid shit, and eventually the Coast Guard shows up.

Some could get way worse. You overhear two guys talking about someone who owes them money, then later see them dragging the same guy out of a house. Someone leaves a club threatening their ex’s new boyfriend and later they’re fighting in a parking lot. A drunk guy swears he’s fine to drive, then twenty minutes later his car’s wrapped around a pole.

Sometimes you only find the aftermath. Two people argue and later one’s in an ambulance while cops question the other, or you recognize their car abandoned with blood on the seat. You just put together what probably happened.

And sometimes you just end up seeing some weird shit. Follow some suspicious dude making weird calls into the middle of nowhere thinking you’re about to see a drug deal or somebody get killed.

Instead he pulls into some sketchy adult store called something stupid like Hole Lotta Love 😂 You follow him inside, he disappears through a locked door and comes out a few minutes later acting completely normal. Once he leaves you sneak back there and realize this dude drove halfway across Leonida just to visit a glory hole. Maybe there’s even a sign saying “No Refunds. No Eye Contact.”

Not every conversation should lead somewhere either. Sometimes you follow somebody expecting crazy shit and they literally just go get food. Other times something completely normal turns into something you never expected.

No marker telling you they’re important either. You just hear something that catches your attention and decide to be nosy.

I already know I’d waste way too much time following random people around Leonida just to see what the fuck they’re doing.

WTF HACKERS ON HALLOWEEN HAVE CHANGED MICHAEL MYERS TO JASON DUVAL FROM GTA 6!!

RDR2 let you rob random NPCs. How far could GTA 6 take street crime if it worked both ways?

With how much more reactive GTA 6’s NPCs seem to be, I’ve been wondering how far they’ll take that system this time.

Like if I stick somebody up, I don’t want it to always just be some cash. Let me tell them to empty their pockets or hand over their phone, watch, chain, rings, car keys, whatever they actually have. Taking their phone could even buy you some time before they call the cops. Tell somebody to get out of their car and they might listen, or you picked the wrong person and they pull a gun on you instead.

You could start noticing who’s actually worth robbing too. See somebody wearing an expensive watch or leaving a store after buying something and follow them. Richer areas could have people carrying better shit, cars with more valuable stuff left inside, things like that.

Then there’s smaller stuff that doesn’t need to turn into a whole robbery. Snatch somebody’s chain or purse and take off 😂 maybe they actually chase you. Pick somebody’s pocket in a packed club or tourist area, or grab something from a store and try walking out with it without holding the place up. An employee might not notice until you’re already outside.

What would really make it interesting though is if you’re not always the one doing it. Walk through the wrong area at night flashing jewelry and realize some dude has been behind you for the last two blocks. Somebody could pickpocket you in a crowd, try snatching Lucia’s purse or you come back to your car and somebody’s going through it, or the whole thing is just gone. Tourist areas could have more pickpockets and scams while other neighborhoods you’re more likely to actually get stuck up. If you’re visibly armed, maybe somebody who was about to try you decides fuck that and keeps walking.

RDR2 already had people lure you into setups and ambushes too. I’d like to see that come back where somebody asking for a ride or standing next to a broken down car might actually need help, or you might realize too late you walked straight into a setup.

Basically sometimes you’re out looking for somebody to rob and sometimes you’re just minding your own business and realize somebody picked you instead.

MikeShowSha says Jason and Lucia have their own routines when not controlling them. How deep could that actually go?

In case anybody missed it, I’m talking about this breakdown of MikeShowSha’s Rockstar North preview with Rob Nelson:

https://www.reddit.com/r/GTA/s/HaD92DxsZD

He said the character you’re not controlling continues doing their own activities and Jason and Lucia each have their own routine. That makes me wonder how far Rockstar could actually take it.

Say I’m Jason and I randomly recognize Lucia’s car driving past me. Let me follow her without switching 😂 Maybe she’s getting food, shopping, working out, at the beach, drinking somewhere or hanging out with somebody. If I follow her long enough maybe she notices and texts Jason asking what the hell he’s doing.

You could randomly find her getting into shit too. Arguing with somebody, getting into a fight or dealing with cops, and you decide whether to jump in or just watch it play out.

The relationship could make this even better. If they argued earlier, maybe Lucia goes off by herself and ignores Jason’s calls for a while. Jason could see her talking to some dude at a club and get jealous, or Lucia catches him flirting with somebody. How they react could depend on where their relationship is at.

I’d also like whatever they’re doing without you to actually leave changes behind. We already know eating and training can affect their physique, so maybe you switch back and notice Lucia gained or lost a little weight or looks more toned from working out. Maybe she went shopping, changed clothes, got a haircut or spent some money without you choosing it. Same thing with Jason.

Even finding Lucia with a bruise or bandage you don’t remember would be cool. Now you’re wondering what the hell happened while you were gone 😂

And it’d be even better if they noticed those changes in each other. Jason comments on Lucia’s haircut, Lucia notices Jason’s been working out, one of them asks what happened to the other’s face or gets annoyed about money they spent.

What I really wanna know is how far those routines actually go. We know they keep doing their own thing, but being able to randomly cross paths with Lucia while playing as Jason and see what happens could make the world feel way more alive.

We know cars need fuel in GTA 6, but what happens when you actually get stranded?

TGG mentioned a situation where you could steal a getaway car after a robbery and realize it’s almost empty, and that got me thinking about what happens when you actually get stuck somewhere with no gas 😂

Obviously if you’re being chased you’re probably just gonna ditch it and steal another car, but what if you actually wanna keep it? Could you have a gas can, call somebody to bring you fuel or get a tow truck out to wherever you’re stuck?

Tires could make this even crazier. Say one blows during a getaway and now the car is pulling to one side while you’re trying to keep it moving with sparks coming off the rim. Maybe you can keep driving on the blown tire long enough to get somewhere safe and actually change it, or say fuck it and keep going until the wheel is completely fucked. If you can’t fix it yourself, maybe that’s when you call somebody or get it towed.

It’d also be cool if random NPCs actually noticed when you’re stranded. Somebody could pull over and offer to help, maybe help push your car somewhere safe or bring you some gas. If you’re sitting broken down on the freeway long enough, maybe a tow truck eventually comes along to get you and the car off the road.

And I’d love to see the same shit happen to NPCs. You’re driving somewhere and see somebody standing next to a dead car with the hood up, a flat tire or an empty tank. You could stop and give them a jump, help with the tire, give them a ride, help push the car or just keep driving. Hell, you could pretend you’re gonna help and rob them instead 😂

Where it happens could change the whole situation too. Running out in Vice City probably isn’t a big deal. Running out way in the middle of nowhere at night with barely anybody around could turn into something completely different.

And if you don’t wanna deal with any of that, fuck it, leave the car and steal another one 😂

How deep do you think GTA 6 will go with hiding bodies and actually getting away with murder?

Now that we’ve heard from the creator previews that you can put bodies in car trunks, I’m wondering how much further that actually goes.

Say you kill somebody somewhere secluded and nobody sees it. You put the body in the trunk and leave.

Now what?

Can you dump it in the Everglades? Throw it in the water? Hide it somewhere and come back later?

And does the body actually stay there?

RDR2 already had decomposition, so imagine coming back a couple days later and it’s still there but starting to decay, flies around it, animals getting near it and shit.

Or maybe somebody eventually finds it.

Imagine thinking you got away with it, then a few days later you hear on the radio or see online that the person was reported missing.

Then imagine later their body actually gets found 😂

Now cops are blocking the area off, investigators are talking to people and looking around, but that still doesn’t mean they know it was you.

Maybe you covered your tracks perfectly.

Or maybe you fucked up without realizing it.

Somebody saw your car nearby. A camera caught you somewhere in the area. Somebody remembers the weapon you were carrying. Maybe you left something behind without even realizing it.

And what about the car itself?

You dumped the body, cool… but now there’s blood in your trunk 😂

Do you clean it? Get rid of the car? Could driving around with blood back there cause a whole new problem if you get pulled over?

Where you leave the body could matter too. Somewhere populated gets found pretty quick. Way out in the middle of nowhere could take days.

Dump it in the water and maybe it washes up somewhere completely different later.

Keep it in your trunk too long and you better hope you don’t get pulled over 😂

Or maybe nobody ever finds it at all.

That’s what I’m really curious about. Could you actually commit a crime that the police don’t even know happened?

The body in the trunk part has been reported from the creator previews, but the deeper body discovery, cleanup, decomposition and investigation stuff isn’t confirmed.

With how much deeper the witness and police systems seem to be, I wanna know if getting away with murder can actually mean more than just losing your wanted level.

We know GTA 6’s police system is deep… but how deep does it go when they actually catch you?

We already know GTA 6 is going deeper with witnesses, descriptions, vehicles and cops actively searching for you.

But what happens when they actually find you?

Imagine getting pulled over because your car matches one used in a robbery. The cop doesn’t know it was you yet, he’s just suspicious.

If we can interact with regular NPCs, imagine doing the same with cops.

Defuse. Cooperate. Lie. Refuse. Talk shit.

“Where are you coming from?”

You answer.

“Whose car is this?”

…well fuck 😂

Maybe you talk your way out of it. Maybe you make everything worse.

He tells you to step out.

You refuse.

Now what? Does he call backup? Do they break the window and drag you out? Do you get one last chance to cooperate before things escalate?

Now you’re resisting. Do they tackle you, wrestle you down or tase you? Can you break free and run?

Maybe you hide in somebody’s backyard thinking you lost them, only to hear a K9 barking a couple streets over and getting closer 😂

Do you keep running, hide or give up?

That’s what I want to know: how many steps are there between “you’re under arrest” and cops actually shooting?

Refusing commands, resisting arrest, running, punching a cop and pulling a gun shouldn’t all get the same response. Maybe they tase you and rush in to cuff you, giving you the choice to surrender or keep fighting and make everything worse.

Pull a gun and obviously everything changes. But even then, can you drop it, put your hands up and actually surrender?

And imagine NPCs doing this too.

You’re driving past a traffic stop when some guy starts arguing with the cop. He shoves him and runs. Backup comes flying in. Maybe he gets tackled, tased or gives up. Maybe he reaches back into his car and everything goes to shit.

Basically, random little bodycam videos happening around Leonida 😂

But here’s the bigger question…

What happens if they actually arrest you?

Does it just fade to black and spawn you outside the station?

Or do they cuff you, search you, confiscate illegal or stolen items and put you in the back of the patrol car?

Maybe your car gets impounded. Smaller crimes could get you processed and released, while serious offenses might put you in a holding cell. Maybe you can pay bail or call Lucia to come get you.

If Rockstar went really deep, could she even cause a diversion during transport or help break you out depending on what you were arrested for?

Nothing crazy where GTA turns into a jail simulator lol, just different possibilities.

And what about probation? Previous arrests, mugshots, cops already having your information, or getting caught again while you’re on probation actually mattering?

None of this deeper arrest, K9, probation or jail stuff is confirmed. I’m just wondering how far Rockstar took it.

Because imagine a traffic stop starting with a normal conversation, then you lie, refuse to get out, resist, get tased, run, hear dogs searching for you, finally get caught and decide to surrender.

Next thing you know, you’re actually in cuffs in the back of a patrol car.

And not one gunshot was fired.

Or you cooperate from the beginning and somehow talk your way out of the whole thing.

Or you make one horrible decision and turn a traffic stop into absolute fucking chaos 😂

We know a lot about what happens while cops are looking for you.

Now I want to know what happens when they actually get their hands on you.

About a month ago I posted how GTA 6 should make you feel like an actual criminal. After the Extended Look, a crazy amount of my wishlist is actually in the game

About a month ago I posted how GTA 6 should make you feel like an actual criminal. After the Extended Look, a crazy amount of my wishlist is actually in the game

Original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/grandtheftauto/s/qhGB0RDFSS

This is gonna be a long one lol, but there were way too many similarities not to go through them.

That original post was just my wishlist for what I thought would make GTA better. I wasn’t basing it on leaks or insider information. I posted it 28 days ago, before the recent leaks and before the Extended Look.

After seeing everything Rockstar just showed and all the new details from people who got invited to Rockstar, I went back and read it again and holy shit lol. A crazy amount of what I was asking for is actually in the game or at least way closer than I expected.

One of the biggest things I wanted was for cops to stop magically knowing everything you did.

I said witnesses should matter and police should work off what people actually saw, including your appearance, clothes and vehicle.

That’s basically what Rockstar built.

Police can have information about your appearance, clothes, vehicle and even the weapon you were seen carrying. If they know your vehicle, ditching it can help. If they know your clothes, changing outfits can throw off the description. Masks matter too.

Police also search within a Heat Area instead of magically knowing exactly where you are, and going back to a vehicle they already know can put you at risk again.

That’s pretty much exactly the kind of system I wanted.

Then there’s this part from my original post:

“If I’m carrying an illegal gun, let me toss it into a lake, dumpster, or storm drain before the cops find me.”

Somehow the basic idea of that made it in too lol.

If police know what weapon you had during a crime, you can actually discard it to lower your Heat.

We don’t know if you can literally throw it into a lake or storm drain and have police find it as evidence like I imagined, but getting rid of your gun can actually become part of your escape.

Weapons themselves are more physical too.

I wanted carrying guns to actually mean something instead of your character magically having an entire arsenal hidden somewhere. Now weapons can be stored in vehicle trunks and weapon lockers, and openly carrying a gun can change how NPCs react to you.

I also wanted guns to actually pack a punch and feel like real weapons instead of sounding and feeling like airsoft or BB guns.

From what we’ve seen, gunfights definitely look heavier and more impactful. You can target specific areas of people and vehicles and shoot weapons out of people’s hands. Rockstar has also confirmed suppression fire, where you can deliberately shoot near people to scare or confuse them and create an opportunity to escape without killing them.

I went further with guns though. I wanted every weapon to have its own powerful sound, shots echoing through the city, different indoor/outdoor acoustics, realistic muzzle flashes and bullets ricocheting off concrete and metal with sparks and that unmistakable ping sound.

We haven’t seen enough to confirm all of that yet.

NPC reactions were another huge thing.

I specifically imagined carjacking somebody and not knowing what they would do. One person might freeze, somebody else might give you the car and run, another might fight back and somebody else might pull a gun.

And this is one of the craziest matches.

Rockstar has now explained that you can sometimes yell at somebody to get out of their car instead of automatically beating or dragging them out. Sometimes they’ll listen, sometimes they won’t, and sometimes they can actually pull a gun and start shooting at you.

That’s ridiculously close to the example I used.

Regular civilians can be armed and fight back too, so you’re not necessarily the only dangerous person walking around Leonida.

I also complained about combat basically making somebody either perfectly fine or instantly dead.

I wanted people who got shot or badly hurt to not always just drop completely lifeless. Depending on where they were hit, I wanted them to still be moving, struggling, trying to get away or be incapacitated without necessarily being dead.

And we’re seeing some of that now.

People can be incapacitated, different body parts can be targeted and weapons can be shot out of their hands. In the new footage we also see wounded people still moving after going down instead of every NPC immediately becoming completely lifeless.

That’s much closer to what I was talking about where shooting somebody doesn’t automatically have one outcome.

I wanted injuries to go even further though: busted lips, black eyes, broken teeth, swollen faces, bloody noses, bruises, cuts, limping and injuries actually staying visible afterward. That level of persistent injury hasn’t been confirmed yet.

Same with the crazy bar fights I imagined with bottles smashing, chairs breaking, people getting thrown over pool tables and bouncers jumping in. Still waiting on that one lol.

Another detail I specifically mentioned was:

“Crashes should leave debris all over the road.”

And in the Extended Look on Netflix, we actually see something really close to exactly what I was talking about.

During the shootout/chase, a car gets shot up and afterward you can actually see pieces of the car scattered across the street.

That’s the kind of aftermath detail I wanted. A violent shootout or crash shouldn’t happen and leave the street looking perfectly clean afterward.

We can see the destruction and debris now. What we don’t know is how long all of it actually stays there.

I also wanted thick smoke from burnouts and shootouts hanging in the air and blood actually leaving trails. Neither has been confirmed at the level I described yet.

Robberies were another massive part of my post.

I wrote:

“Every robbery shouldn’t go according to plan. Every escape should feel different.”

And this might be one of the closest things to Rockstar’s actual philosophy with the game.

Robberies can involve real risk/reward decisions. One example involves getting into a safe quickly but potentially destroying some valuables, or taking longer to find the combination so you preserve more of the loot while giving police more time to arrive.

That’s exactly the kind of shit I meant.

One decision creates another problem, that problem forces another decision and suddenly a simple robbery becomes its own story.

Money was another big one.

I wanted money to actually matter and being broke to make being a criminal harder.

Stolen goods can be fenced, stolen vehicles have value, damaging them can lower what they’re worth, garages and personal vehicles matter more and money is supposed to be much more important to progression.

That’s much closer to what I wanted instead of money eventually becoming a giant meaningless number.

Cars were another massive part of what I wrote.

I wanted stolen cars to actually feel stolen instead of walking up to basically anything and magically driving away.

Different vehicles now have different levels of security. Older cars can be broken into with simpler tools while newer or expensive vehicles can require things like a key cloner. Smashing a window can trigger an alarm and some higher-end cars can have trackers.

So you might successfully steal a car and still have its tracker give your location to police. Those trackers can eventually be removed before certain vehicles are safely sold.

That’s exactly the kind of consequence I wanted.

What you steal actually matters.

Vehicle damage matters too. Damaging a stolen car lowers its value, blown tires seriously affect handling and we’re seeing much more detailed crash destruction.

And then there’s probably the funniest one.

I straight up wrote:

“Running out of gas should actually happen if you ignore it.”

And yep…

GTA 6 actually has fuel 😂

Even electric vehicles can need charging.

Again, I posted the original thread 28 days ago, before the recent leaks and before the Extended Look. I wasn’t basing this on leaked footage or insider information. I was literally just describing the kind of GTA I wanted.

That’s why reading it now is so crazy.

There’s still a lot from my original post that we DON’T know about yet though.

I wanted different neighborhoods and nighttime to actually feel dangerous depending on where and when you were there: random robberies, people trying to jump you, knives being pulled, gang activity, sketchy alleys, abandoned streets, heavy fog, stray dogs and different areas having completely different levels of danger.

We know Leonida is more reactive and regular civilians can be armed, but that full neighborhood danger system hasn’t been confirmed.

I also went way deeper with witnesses, police searches and stealth. I imagined witnesses pulling out phones, calling 911 and recording you; K9s tracking where you ran; police drones; cops questioning people; detailed roadblocks; and a police scanner you could use to hear where officers were searching.

I wanted to hop fences and cut through backyards and drainage canals, go fully prone in tall grass, hide underneath vehicles or behind dumpsters, sneak into abandoned buildings, climb rooftops, hide in the woods or under docks and basically use the whole environment to disappear.

The new Heat system gets much closer to that overall idea, but most of those specific things haven’t been confirmed yet.

I went pretty far with forensic details too lol. I imagined cutting your arm climbing a fence and leaving blood, muddy footprints after running through water or accidentally dropping your phone while escaping.

I even imagined stealing a bicycle because it would be quieter than a car, cutting through alleys and ditching it before continuing on foot.

None of that has been confirmed.

I wanted ammo limited enough that every bullet matters too. Weapon carrying is definitely more restricted and physical now, but we don’t know if ammo itself is scarce enough to work the way I imagined.

I wanted the criminal economy to go even deeper with fake IDs, bribes, informants, repairs, hiding stolen vehicles, burner phones, lockpicks, medical supplies and black-market weapons.

Pieces of that criminal economy are clearly there, but all those specific things haven’t been confirmed.

Same with my deeper car ideas: overheating engines, suspension damage, dying batteries, old cars sometimes struggling to start, persistent shattered windows and bullet holes and a badly damaged getaway car actually feeling like it’s barely holding together.

We know vehicle condition, damage and tires matter more now, but most of that deeper mechanical stuff hasn’t been confirmed.

And obviously the optional co-op idea I mentioned where you could free roam or even play through the story with somebody else hasn’t been confirmed either.

So no, I didn’t somehow predict every feature in GTA 6 lol.

What blows my mind is how close the overall IDEA of my post ended up being.

I literally wrote:

“I don’t want realism just for the sake of realism. I want realism that creates unpredictable stories.”

And:

“Sometimes you barely get away. Sometimes you lose everything. Sometimes you have to outsmart everyone instead of outgunning everyone.”

That’s the part that feels almost dead on now.

Think about the kind of situation I was imagining.

You rob somewhere. Somebody reports you. Police know your getaway car, so you ditch it. They know what you’re wearing, so you change clothes. They know what weapon you had, so you dump it.

Police are searching an area instead of magically knowing your exact location, so you try to disappear.

Maybe the expensive car you steal has a tracker. Maybe being greedy during the robbery gave police enough time to arrive. Maybe the person you try to carjack pulls a gun instead of giving up the car. Maybe pulling your own gun when you didn’t need to makes everything worse. Maybe somebody you shot isn’t actually dead and is still moving or incapacitated.

Maybe you get away without killing anybody at all.

Instead of every crime automatically becoming you shooting 50 cops and driving around until the stars disappear, you’re actually thinking about what police know and adapting when shit goes wrong.

That’s basically what I meant when I said GTA should make you feel like an actual criminal instead of an invincible action hero.

Witness information, descriptions of your appearance and clothes, known getaway vehicles, changing outfits, ditching vehicles, dumping weapons to lower Heat, actual police search areas, vehicle trackers, physical weapon storage, NPCs reacting to visible guns, armed civilians, unpredictable carjackings, heavier gunplay, incapacitated people still moving after going down, body-part targeting, crash debris, risk/reward robberies, fences, meaningful vehicle values, different ways of stealing cars, vehicle damage and even fucking fuel.

A month ago that was basically my dream version of GTA.

Now a surprising amount of it is actually GTA 6 lol.

GTA VI Should Make You Feel Like an Actual Criminal

Hopefully the fighting is way better this time. Knocking out an NPC with one punch gets old fast. I’d rather see people react realistically, stumble around after getting hit, stay injured for a while, try to crawl away, surrender, or fight differently depending on who they are. Let fights actually show damage too. Busted lips, black eyes, broken teeth, swollen faces, bloody noses, bruises, cuts, and limping that stick around instead of disappearing after a few seconds. Make every fight look different depending on how it played out. Bar fights should be way more brutal too. Chairs breaking, bottles smashing, people getting thrown over pool tables, bouncers jumping in, and the whole place turning into chaos.

Also, is it just me or do the guns sound weak? They all kind of sound like airsoft or BB guns. Every weapon should have its own sound, louder echoes through the city, different acoustics indoors versus outdoors, realistic muzzle flash, ricochet bullets that bounce off metal and concrete with sparks and that unmistakable ping sound, and way more punch so every shot feels powerful.

Burnouts and shootouts should leave thick smoke hanging in the air. Blood should leave trails. Crashes should leave debris all over the road. Nighttime should actually feel dark and dangerous where certain neighborhoods make you think twice before driving through them or even walking down the street. Some areas should have people trying to rob you, jump you, or pull a knife if you’re in the wrong place at the wrong time. It should make you think, “I better keep a gun on me before I go over there,” because you never know what could happen. Give players a reason to actually have to use their gun instead of just shooting NPCs for no reason. Make it feel like you’re trying to survive, not just cause chaos.

Add heavy fog, sketchy alleyways, abandoned streets, stray dogs barking in the distance, random gang activity, and people hanging out on corners so different parts of the city actually have their own vibe instead of every neighborhood feeling the same.

NPCs should actually value their lives. If you try to carjack someone, one person might freeze, another throws you the keys, another floors it, and another pulls a gun. Witnesses should call 911, record you, remember what you were wearing, and tell police what car you stole. Cops shouldn’t magically know where you are. They should search neighborhoods, knock on doors, question witnesses, use K9s, helicopters, drones, roadblocks, and actually lose you if you’re smart enough to ditch the car, change clothes, or disappear into a crowd.

Stealth should finally matter. Let me hop fences, cut through backyards, crawl through drainage canals, go fully prone in tall grass or under vehicles, hide behind dumpsters, sneak into abandoned buildings, climb rooftops, hide in the woods, crawl under docks, or blend into crowds while helicopters circle overhead. Let us steal or buy a police scanner so we can actually listen to officers calling out search locations and roadblocks and use that information to avoid them. Maybe you hear officers over the scanner saying, “Units check the warehouses on the east side,” so you know to head the opposite direction. If I’m carrying an illegal gun, let me toss it into a lake, dumpster, or storm drain before the cops find me. If I panic and jump a chain-link fence, maybe I rip my pants, cut my arm, or leave a little blood behind. Maybe I leave muddy footprints after running through a creek, or drop my phone while sprinting away. Maybe I steal a bike because it’s quieter than a car, then ditch it when the search gets too close. If a police flashlight barely misses me while I’m lying prone behind a bush holding my breath while officers walk right past me, that’s the kind of tension I want. Those little details completely change your play style because now you’re thinking about every decision instead of just sprinting away and shooting everyone. That level of detail would make the whole game feel more dynamic instead of every escape playing out the same way.

Ammo should actually be limited so every bullet matters. Money should finally have a real purpose too. Give us things worth spending it on besides cars and clothes. Safehouses, mechanics, fake IDs, bribing people, paying informants, repairing cars, hiding stolen vehicles, buying gas, food, burner phones, lockpicks, medical supplies, and black market weapons. If you’re broke, life as a criminal should actually be harder. If you lose your getaway car, that shouldn’t just be an inconvenience. It should be a financial setback because now you’ve got to find another ride, repair it, fuel it up, or buy a new safe place to stash it.
Cars should feel alive too.

Engines should overheat if you abuse them, tires should blow out, suspensions should get damaged from jumps, batteries should occasionally die, and older stolen cars shouldn’t always start on the first try. Running out of gas should actually happen if you ignore it. Windows should stay shattered, bullet holes shouldn’t disappear, and a beat-up stolen car should actually drive like it’s barely holding together instead of feeling brand new forever.

Imagine if Rockstar added an optional co-op mode where you could free roam or even play through the story with a friend. You and your friend hit a liquor store. Everything goes wrong. A customer secretly calls 911 while you’re inside. You run out, jump into your getaway car, and it won’t start. Your friend finally gets it running, but a few miles later the engine starts smoking because you wrecked it during the escape. You bail out and steal an old pickup from a gas station while people are pointing and yelling your description. Now there’s a helicopter overhead, K9 units tracking where you ran, and police are locking down the streets ahead. You hear over your stolen police scanner that they’re setting up roadblocks near the highway, so you ditch the truck before you get boxed in. You change into different clothes from a laundromat, toss your gun into a canal, hop fences through backyards, rip your pants climbing one, go prone in tall grass while officers walk only a few feet away, crawl through a storm drain, and hide inside an abandoned warehouse while flashlights and K9s search just outside the door. You hear officers arguing over the radio because they lost visual. Hours later you walk out looking like a normal person, steal a beat-up sedan parked behind a bar, realize it’s almost out of gas, use the cash from the robbery to fill it up, and quietly disappear into another part of the city before sunrise. That’s the kind of escape that feels like an episode of Cops, where one bad decision turns a simple robbery into a desperate fight to survive.

I don’t want realism just for the sake of realism. I want realism that creates unpredictable stories. Every robbery shouldn’t go according to plan. Every escape should feel different. Sometimes you barely get away. Sometimes you lose everything. Sometimes you have to outsmart everyone instead of outgunning everyone. Right now GTA can feel a little too arcade-like during those moments. These kinds of details would make every decision matter and every escape feel earned.

Now that would give us the full Grand Theft Auto experience. Make us feel like actual criminals instead of action heroes. Make us think, adapt, steal cars because we have to, and survive every bad decision. Those kinds of dynamic details are what would make every player’s story completely different instead of everyone having the exact same experience. That’s exactly what I think a lot of us have wanted from GTA for years.
