Madone SL7 v Pinarello F5 v Aeroad SLX 7
I got into cycling last year and have ridden around 2,500 km in the last 6 months on a 15-year-old S-Works Roubaix that I bought for around $800. Now I’m looking for a serious upgrade and I’m stuck between 3 bikes.
Budget is around $6,000, but I’m willing to stretch a bit if it really makes sense.
I’ve also started doing triathlons - completed one 70.3 and will do more. I will buy a dedicated TT bike in the future, so this bike would mainly be for training.
Current shortlist:
- Trek Madone SL 7 Gen 8
- Dealer price around $5,500
- Tested it and really liked it
- Biggest issue is sizing: I seem to be between L and XL
- I would probably choose L, but I somehow felt a bit cramped in the cockpit
- Pinarello F5 / F7
- F5 around $5,500
- F7 around $8,000
- The F5 feels a bit overpriced compared to competitors considering the groupset/wheels/cockpit spec
- Dealer didn’t have an F5/F7 to test, so he let me ride a Dogma F for around 5 km… and of course I absolutely loved it
- Now I’m wondering how different the ride feel actually is between the Dogma and the F-series
- Canyon Aeroad SLX 7
- Around $5,500 directly from Canyon
- No local dealer and test rides are difficult in my area
- On paper it seems like the best value/spec package
About me:
- 188 cm
- FTP around 3,4/kg
- Fairly athletic background
- Not super flexible yet
- I enjoy speed and performance, but still want something I can comfortably ride for a few hours
Would appreciate opinions especially from people who:
- rode both Madone and Aeroad
- have experience with Pinarello F vs Dogma
- came from endurance bikes into aero bikes
- are between sizes on Madone
