Road bike or gravel bike? I’m torn.

I’m trying to decide whether to buy a road bike or a gravel bike, and I keep going back and forth.

My boyfriend rides a road bike, and watching him train and improve has made me really interested in that side of cycling. The performance aspect genuinely appeals to me. I like the idea of riding fast, pushing myself, and having something to work towards, even though I haven’t really experienced that kind of riding yet.

The problem is that I really don’t enjoy riding on busy roads and getting passed too closely by cars. I know there are quieter roads out there, but the idea of being able to ride away from traffic is a big part of why gravel appeals to me.

So I’m torn between the performance and speed of a road bike, and the freedom and peace of mind that a gravel bike seems to offer.

For those of you who had to make the same decision, what made you choose one over the other? Looking back, would you make the same choice today?

Is this bike worth 500$?

I’m new to biking and I saw this bike listed on fb marketplace. They said it’s in excellent condition. It’s my size

Comparing 2 bikes- specialized vs cannondale

From what I can tell from Googling these seem like good entry level bikes. I've never bought my own bike before and would love some in put. I'm also concerned about sizing. These are mediums. I'm 5' 9.5" (69.5inches) and therefore I'm between sizes for a medium and large in both brands. Some pages said to choose the smaller size vs having one be too big and stretched out

Looking for a road bike for my brother, what are your thoughts on this for $500

I'm aware it's quite an old bike, but my brother is quite short and it's pretty rare to find smaller bikes that'll fit him. I looked into the organization mentioned in the listing and they seem to be credible. What are your thoughts on this 20+ year old carbon bike as a first road bike for my brother. Thank you so much for you help!

Bike Overlords, Please Help Me Choose between These ≤$3k USD Bikes

Hi all,

I live in the U.S. and am looking to buy my first road bike for competitive cycling/triathalon. I have been learning about road bikes for a few months now and am ready to spend up to $3000 on a bike. I've budgeted separately for pedals, gear, etc., so this would be for the bike itself. Trying to choose between the following, but I'm open to other suggestions too; all of these have carbon frames, Shimano 105 components, and disc brakes, but all of these specs are negotiable for me:

Could you guys give your thoughts? Based on research so far, I would say I'm leaning towards one of the Cannondales.

I've also looked on resale markets (FB, eBay, etc.) for used bikes but have really had trouble finding a worthwhile deal in my size as a tall rider (looking in the 61–63cm range). Thank you, everyone.

worth it?

seems to be in good condition. Getting my first road bike after growing up mountain biking, and since i have to go on planes a lot, it will save me more money in the long run if it’s light (is my excuse to buy carbon). Worth 800? it’s hard to find bikes my size.

Do I get this please help!

I’ve been looking at a hybrid bike and i found this 2022 giant escape 2 that the seller says is lightly used and in great condition. Is $440 a good price for this?

Thoughts on Chinese Carbon Frames from Quick Pro, Winspace and Evolve

Hi everyone

I’m in the market for a new bike. What are your thoughts new Chinese bikes, specifically Quick Pro, Winspace and Evolve

I have a budget under $6K and looking into these frames I can build them up per my specs with Dura Ace or SRAM Red group sets and some nice Chinese carbon wheels

I’ve seen few Quick Pros and Winspace bikes around, Winspace even sponsors a local cycling team and seen quite a few of those in local crits and everyone I talked to say good things about those bikes

Are anyone with long term experience with these bikes whether you regret buying one and or how do they compare against western brands in terms of build quality and riding characteristics

I’m looking at Quick Pro ER:One, Winspace T1600 and Evolve Cima, there seem to be many good reviews for Quick Pro and Winspace but not much on Evolve Cima and very few that are out there look like a sponsored content

Thanks!

£3500 Road bike advice

Hi, I'm looking to upgrade from my Cannondale Topstone 2 gravel bike as I've been mostly road cycling.

Budget is around the £3-£3.5k mark.

Here is a few I've found:

  • Cube Agree C:62 Pro 2026 — £3,399 Ultegra Di2, Newmen Advanced A.50 carbon wheels.
  • Giant TCR Advanced 0 2026 — £3,299 Shimano 105 Di2, Giant SLR 2 40 carbon wheels.
  • Trek Madone SL 6 Gen 8 — £3,200 Shimano 105 Di2, Bontrager Aeolus Elite 50 carbon wheels

Can anyone give their thoughts on these, or give other suggestions?

Most rides will be in the 30-90km range. Fast solo+group rides and *potentially* races.

Thanks

Looking for a cheapish ($250) casual bike for my girlfriend

I recently received a decent road bike from a family member, my girlfriend is now interested in going for rides together. We would primarily be going for casual rides together on pavement, but it would be good to have the capability to go on dirt for some light trails around the city or outside of it. I think “hybrid” is an option for this? She is roughly 5’ 3” and athletic, and bonus points if it’s “cute”. If anyone can direct me towards a suitable new bike or a direction to look for available used bikes it would be greatly appreciated!

Stuck on deciding what bike Im picking up next

Stuck between a JAVA suprema 2019-21 ( not sure which model specific ) or a 2008 cervelo soloist.

- Java $900 trying to get it for 8
- cervelo (red) $900 firm
- cervelo (grey) $700

What would y’all choose if you were me considering specs and price and what not ! Upgrading from a 80s road bike so I’ll be pleased with whatever I pick up :)

Any idea which year/model Indie this is?

Hi there, I’m a newbie and looking to buy my first quality bike. This one is available on marketplace for $400 CAD but the seller doesn’t know which Indie it is and I don’t see a number anywhere. Does anyone have an idea which model this might be? Also, any feedback on the Indie? I mostly use it for exercise/casual riding on paved pathways, sometimes gravel. TIA!

Gravel bike recommendations

I’m looking sub 2k. Hydraulic disc brakes are a must. I test rode a checkpoint alr3 and was impressed but would need the alr4. But then…. I got an add for Jamis renegades. I like steel( I have a surly ogre that is my favorite bike) but I don’t know if it would still allow me to possibly enter into any races or carry much speed. So I am stuck. Should I choose the trekpoint or possibly go for the steel Jamis (which I have not test rode) any advice helps!

Wanting a bike that can do a bit of everything. Should I a get gravel or touring bike?

Title, late last year I bought a trek fx 1 gen 4 for getting around here in LA county, this was a last ditch attempt before having to unfortunately finally get a car at the time 24. Thankfully though it worked out and I now want to upgrade.

I want a bike that I can handle going to and from work, hauling groceries, laundry, along with being able to tour and bikepack.

Right now I'm torn between a gravel bike, and a touring rig.

I like gravel because the bars look cooler tbh, and they can take wider tires, so during the work week or in touring mode I can run slick tires and Friday going into the weekend I can run something more aggressive, and they're lighter, posedion has one that's aluminum with a carbon fork along with the salsa journeyer

But my main concern is the material, while light and fast, can it handle groceries? Hauling laundry? 10-25ish pounds on the front rack? Gravel bikes while they look awesome, only seem to be for just the riding and aren't very utilitarian.

And I like Touring rigs, the gearing seems to be more for climbing, the material is usually steel, which is heavier, but durable, can handle a lot more weight, and seem to have more comfortable geometry, but they seem to not be able to take chunkier tires, I've tried riding with my 700x35 and they're not the best. I'm currently looking at the surly bridge club and Kona rove for a touring bike.

Keep in mind, I'm new to all this, if anything I said sounds dumb or doesn't make sense, do keep in mind I'm new. Which should I go for?

Specialized or Canyon. New to cycling.

Canyon Grail CF SL 7 vs Specialized Roubaix SL8?

  • I'm new to cycling and looking for a bike I can keep for years.
    • Me:
      • Beginner/ female
      • Want to try doing Olympic-distance triathlon
      • Budget up to around CAD $5,000.

Or are there any other bikes in this price range that I should seriously consider?

New Domane AL4 or Used Diverge E5?

I've been riding a hybrid bike for several years and lately have been looking at upgrading to a Domane AL4. My local shop can get a new 2026 ordered for me for MSRP, but I found a 2019 Diverge E5 on Facebook Marketplace for $400.

I live in East Tennessee so I ride a lot of hills, particularly on my longest rides. I'm not really a racer, I just like long rides for fitness purposes. I plan to ride this ride entirely on the road, and I have a hard tail mountain bike for off road rides.

I'm struggling to decide what to do. Should I got for the $400 used Diverge E5 or save for the $1700 new Domane AL4?

What bike should I get to do long rides on mostly roads and eventually bike tour?

I am a 15 year old guy from the USA, and I want to get into cycling and eventually bike touring. The other week I ran 14 miles at ~8:00/mile, so I'm sure some of that fitness will translate to cycling. I have watched countless youtube videos on bike touring, and I would love to do one of ACA's routes one day (https://www.adventurecycling.org/routes-and-maps/adventure-cycling-route-network/atlantic-coast/)! What bike should I buy? Should I get it new or on facebook marketplace? I will be riding mostly on roads but I may do some trails here and there. I am 5'8 and my budget is around $1200.
