Getting better with Hungary
Hello everyone! I posted some days ago about playing as Hungary. I was lost and did not know what to do very well, but I have been slowly improving. I have managed to win some independence wars now! I have been experimenting with different strategies, and i have some questions to ask now that I am a bit further ahead. There are two ways I have managed to gain freedom- Springtime of Nations, and waiting for Holy Alliance to break to do a normal independence war. My issues are thus:
Springtime of Nations is very hard to plan for. France can activate it in the year 1840, or sometimes it doesn't fire until 1848 or so. One of my strategies has been to become the dual monarchy, but while this secures me a coastline, it removes the modifier intensifying separatist revolts- making the poles and czechs and italians very unlikely to rebel. Without them, Austria and allies just dogpile my rebellion. Is it worth it to try and gain independence here, or is it just too early?
Everyone loves Austria. Most games I see them never get any rivals, and they maintain a defensive pact with Russia and prussia. Sometimes Prussia is willing to join my war, but even if I get them to join, France or GB for some reason just really want to help Austria out, because they rival Prussia, not Austria. Is there some way I can either get the neighboring powers to dislike Austria, or at least want to support me? my limited diplomacy options seem to be an issue here.
Industry is going better, but some things still elude me. I have many millions of peasants, and I'm not sure what subventions and tariffs and all these laws are meant to do. Should I just build as many lumber yards in every state I can? How much construction should I be getting to be 'competitive'?
I want to eventually push for becoming communist, bringing in ol' Karl Marx and revolutionizing the nation that way. Is there a time frame I should be trying to aim for with it? The tech itself takes a long time, and my trade unions are still quite weak.
Thanks all for reading and any helpful tips/tricks/anything would be awesome! Loving vic3 so far, just gotta keep trying and learning
